Well, I can’t believe it’s been a whole year. Everyone said it would fly by, and when those first few weeks DRAAAAGGED on and on with little sleep I didn’t think I would ever make it a year.
Lo and behold, here I am and everyone is still standing (or crawling, as the case may be).
I’ll summarize a tiny bit:
Number of times she was dropped: 0
Number of times I tripped while carrying her: 1
Number of times she pooped on me: 0 (she did poop on the changing table a time or two, but hey… shit happens)
Number of times she peed on me: 3
Number of times she peed on dad: 1
Number of times she threw up on me: at least 3, but there may have been more.
Number of times I accidentally drew blood: 1. I cut her thumb and her thumbnail at the same time the first time I ever tried trimming those claws. She was like a week old. I knew then that I would never win ‘Mother of the Year’ but quickly came to terms with it!
Number of teeth: 7. Well, 4 for sure, and three just breaking through. Fun times.
Number of nights away from baby: 0
Number of nights away with baby: 5, but not all at once.
Number of ounces of breastmilk pumped: I should have kept track but I’m lazy. Lots though. Enough to EBF until 7 months, and stretch my meager freezer stash to 8 1/2 months.
Number of ounces of breastmilk spilled: about 7. I knocked over a full 4oz bottle and literally collapsed in a pile of tears on the kitchen floor. Anyone who has pumped knows all about crying over spilled milk. I have had a few tips and drips as well, so that accounts for another few ounces, to my best estimation.
I won’t calculate the total cost of daycare, because 1-it’s less than I would have expected to spend, and 2-the figure will probably still be shocking. I pretend to be oblivious even though I’m not.
Anyway, we had her birthday party yesterday and it was a blast! She actually ATE the cake, which I didn’t think would happen. I figured she’d smear it all about (and she did) but I didn’t anticipate the actual ingestion of said cake. She did well though 🙂
She got a lot of clothes, some really neat toys, and cake in her ears. A success all around.
Here are some photos (of course):
