We are celebrating a surprise pregnancy and getting ready to welcome our third child into the world (my second pregnancy although it’s been 10 years since my first pregnancy). To prepare for this bundle of joy DH surprised me with a babymoon, location to be determined. We will be going over the Thanksgiving week. At first I was thinking Caribbean all-inclusive but now I’m not so sure I’m comfortable leaving the US that far along. Being my second pregnancy, I know what to expect but there’s always the possibility something could be complicated. I have an American Express who as a member they will helicopter you to high quality healthcare in the case of a medical emergency while traveling internationally but this is a pre-existing condition. I was hoping for warm beach -any suggestions in the continental US around thanksgiving? I’ve been to Hawaii but I don’t think I can tolerate the long flight from the East Coast while preggers. Thanks!

@Foreverblonde345: I’d go and make sure you are in a “civilized” foreign country. We are going to Belize next month and I’ll be 5 1/2 months pregnant. I’m just going to make sure I drink clean water & stay away from the seafood/questionable foods. We’re on the west coast so we’ll more then likely hit up Hawaii for our babymoon since the flight is only 5 hours from our city. I don’t know of any other tropical places to visit in country. Sorry I’m not much help!

Yes. We will probably take a long-awaited trip back to Japan (where I lived for a year and visit frequently), Hawaii, or Mexico together at about 6.5 or 7 months. I don’t think I’ll be too super worried about safely, but where we go will depend on my comfort.

@Foreverblonde345: I would prefer to stay domestic and in a major city so I have access to quality health care should I go into early labor. I would not travel to a second or third world country but another first world like the UK or France or Canada would be fine.

I absolutely would, but if you don’t want to, how about Miami or Key West?

Europe!! Not too far from East Coast and excellent health care. I think a baby moon sounds like a wonderful time for some one-on-one time with the DH before another addition to the family. =)

I thought you weren’t suppose to fly in your third trimester?

Same as above with the answers.
For those questioning the time frame to travel my CNM told me for the last month (37-40 weeks) to not travel more than 2 hours from home and not more than 1 hour from a major hospital. Healthy pregnancy, 30 yo, no issues.
At 34 weeks (8 months) I will be flying solo 2 hours each way to visit family in a major metro US city. Chance of delievery at less than 36 weeks is < 1%

I would definitely go, but if you aren’t feeling the idea of leaving the U.S. maybe check out some other destinations.

I would go as long as it was somewhere with good medical care and clean water. I wouldn’t go to any poorly developed nations.
Just make SURE taht your travel insurance will cover obstetrics, labor and delivery and NICU just in case. Many explicitly do not cover them.

I’m going to Mexico for my sister’s wedding at 29 weeks! My doctor sees no issue with it!
