I am looking for a full, large, fluffy, white flower centerpiece..and lately, I really like baby's breath. These elevated, huge, arrangements would only be on half the tables. The other tables will have low, yet full arrangements of mostly roses, with some white hydrangeas as well.
Problem is: baby's breath is so cheap! I don't want people to think I tried to cut corners...I just like the look of the baby's breath. As a guest, would your first thought be: She tried to save $? Nothing is wrong with saving, I love to save, but our wedding is fairly over the top, and I don't want baby's breath to stick out as awkward.

I love the full fluffiness of baby's breath! I think it makes really simple elegant arrangements by itself. Don't worry over whether or not people would think it was cheap. As a fellow bride, I think I would only think what a smart decision to get something chic and gorgeous for less!
I think the disparity between all babys breath on one table and roses on the other would be a little odd. Is there a way you could try to incorporate similar feelings into the arrangements? Like maybe add some long-stemmed white roses into the babys breath and add babys breath into the low centerpieces?
as a guest, if i sat down at a table and saw a beautiful arrangement of flowers the last thing i will think to do is to judge if the flowers chosen were cheap or not - i believe beautiful arrangements speak for themselves no matter how much they cost
ive seen flower arrangments that cost a fortune but i thought they were tacky (co-worker got $300 bunch of flowers from snivelling boyfriend and it had tiny minature pineapples hiding in it for some reason)
Oh come on girls: Would anyone want someone to think "cheap" at anything about their wedding. I mean, guests don't have to think I spent a fortune...but "cheap"? It's like a bad word in wedding vocabulary!!!!
@Virginia: I doubt that any guest would think it looks cheap. As a fellow wedding researcher, I think it's a super savvy idea!
You girls are always supportive...I guess I will talk to my florist about it. Mixing in some open-bloom roses could be a good idea, it might break it up a bit, texture wise. We'll see!
I really like babys breath for centerpieces, i do not think they look cheap at all.
I think the Baby's Breath looks great! But if you don't feel comfortable using it, have you considered using Lily of the Valley? You can get a similar look and they certainly are not cheap!
i think baby's breath looks beautiful and delicate. one little thing, though...sometimes it can smell quite bad (not sure why- i think it's part of the flower's innate scent), so i would just double check.
im not a fan of it.....every time i see it i think high school prom. its pretty but thats what i think of when i see it :(
LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I don't care if it's a cheap flower, or filler, or whatever. I think it's SO pretty!
Ha, thanks for the input. High school prom?! I love it. That's partially true! Also, good to know about the bad smell---I wonder what people do about that!
I think it depends on how they're used. Red roses and babys breath I think looks too valentinesy. But I've seen some centerpieces in more of a goldish lighting that look good. So yes, depends on the venue and lighting and arrangement, but there's a way to make baby's breath work.
I generally don't care for it and it makes me think of the 80's for some reason. However, I am doing a lot of things with my decor or my wedding that are not very traditional and I'm sure people will feel indifferent about it. WHO CARES? It's your wedding, you do what you like. If you like baby's breath...use it!
I also didn't think I cared for carnations either and when I heard them mentioned I thought of "cheap". However, I recently saw someone's photos on here (I'm sorry I can't remember who it was right now) with bouquets (maybe centerpieces, too?) that were all carnations and they were BEAUTIFUL. I loved the simplicity of it and thought the tighty bunched carnations looked stunning. I have a total new appreciation for carnations.
Maybe your arrangements will cause the same reaction to anyone like me that thinks they aren't a fan of baby's breath...and perhaps they'll change their mind!
I responded without viewing the links. I think the babys breath arrangements you posted are actually quite pretty! I do love the idea of sticking a few white roses into the babys breath arrangement. If you just do a few stems it wouldn't be very costly and might give it that extra oomph!
I really like it when its used in larger quantities..bunched up together. I also love carnations when they're bunched up together too.
What's really the downside of inexpensive and elegant? I think it's fine :)
I think that baby's breath by itself is gorgeous, especially in country or rustic settings. Personally I think it would look prettiest by itself because if you add a few roses, they may become the focal point of the arrangement.
I think even "cheap" flowers can create beautiful arrangements. It really just depends upon your theme... and colors. I think in that sample reception photo - they'd look just beautiful w/ low lights, satin and candles!
I think it's really, really beautiful! It looks like little clouds.
i think baby's breath can look very pretty!! its all in the floral design !! i love pics of bunches of baby's breath...they still give that "wow" factor but don't break the bank.
I think it is pretty and whimsical. I am using it as a bridesmaid bouquet. For my winter wedding, I like it will look like snow!
@des: now see I LOVE that bouquet!!! The long satin bow is a gorgeous addition.
Once again my mind has been changed. I now like carnations and baby's breath.
i think given the setting it can be fitting. personally i hate baby's breath because it reminds me of an 80's prom - but the pictures you posted are quite pretty. I see it being fitting in a rustic or country style wedding??? beautiful, just not my taste....
I think it's gorgeous! The fact that it's cheap is just a bonus!
@2010bride, it is weird. I really have always disliked baby's breathe and carnations but they are beautiful in bouquets in all white. Just lovely!
The examples you showed are the only way I like the look of baby's breath... I actually really like that look. But as a filler in a mixed bouquet or arrangement with roses or other flowers... blegh. When I see it like that I don't think of "cheap," but I think it can look kind of dated in that context.
I actually really like it! It can be really pretty, especially paired with colored linens, I think.
I love it used by itself like in all the inspiration pics posted. I hate it however when used as filler, especially with red roses. For some reason that just looks really dated to me. I think it's cool though that people who haven't thought of it any other way will see how beautiful it is as the sole flower in a full arrangement. I feel the same way about carnations and yet I ordered 800 of them to make pomanders for my aisle and everyone loved them. If you like the look- go for it, it isn't going to look cheap in a gorgeous full bunch on it's own.
I love large amounts of it bunched together...it doesn't look "cheap" that way, it looks gorgeous!!!

Yes I love the look, well its your wedding have it your way...you can not please everyone..The one who thinks negative about it are haters...I can imagine it will look lovely when everything coordinates together it doesnt matter how cheap the flowers are. just remember its your day ...
It looks beautiful and floaty. If you're concerned with the cheapness associated with baby's breath, manybe Queen Anne's Lace is an alternative?
I think they look really nice. I like when they're in white vases - for some reason it seems to fancy them up a bit.
