i would do a little research about costs in your area. I know that daycare is nothing like a babysitter….but maybe look at how much daycare would cost….break it down hourly…and then charge a little less than that

In 2000 when i worked in a daycare..we could babysit on the side. We charged $10 plus a few extra dollars for each additional kid. Find a good hourly rate for 1……and then add a few dollars to the rate for each extra kid.

I did some babysitting a few years ago and I charged $8/hr, plus $1 per extra child. So for your situation, I would charge $11-$12 an hour.

I will give a slightly different price quote. I babysat frequently in my area a few years ago as a way to supplement my college income. I charged anywhere from $10-12/hr for the first child and an additional $5/hr per child. That was subject to increase if I was required to perform additional duties such as cooking meals etc. I would make sure you feel that what you decide to charge is ‘worth your while’. Babysitting someone else’s children can be very taxing after the first few weeks, but it can also be very rewarding.

It definitely depends on the area. I charged $10 per hour in high school and $12+ per hour in college depending on number of kids. Do you have any friends or neighbors with kids that you could ask for advice?

How old are you? when I was in college (19-22) I babysat 3 kids. They paid me $13/hour.

It definitely depends on the area and your age/experience.  I live in NYC and made $15/hr about 5 years ago, which I consider a bargain since I have all first aid training – I was a med student at the time.

If she is just looking for you to be around while they are home, $10 seems totally reasonable to me, or less. If she wants you to entertain them, take them to the park, pool, cook and clean, it really should be more.
