I'm in denial too, sort of and we are getting married on August 22nd.
Our backup plan is a tent that we can order 4 days before the wedding. If it's raining really badly, we will use sides on the tent. If there is a hurricane, I will take it as a sign from God that I should not be getting married, JK!! I don't really have a hurricane backup plan, I guess we can move it to a fire hall at the last minute or something.
Just out of curiousity, have you considered how/when you will notify your guests of the new location if you need to?
I will be sending out customized theatre postcards (back up plan, directions, etc on the back)
I thik that's a great alternative. I'm praying for no rain because we are doing (HOPEFULLY) an outdoor ceremony on a lawn on the water and plan to have our cocktail hour on the porch outside the venue. Reception will be inside, but our in case of rain plan is to do the ceremony inside as well. The space is beautiful inside but I have to say I'd be dissapointed, not to mention the logistics of setting up for the reception after the ceremony. The house manager at my venue said it's been done before so it's possible, but that would SUCK! I'm contemplating a tent but that's going to add some serious $$ on top of the rental fee for the venue so I don't know how possible that is. I'm August 21 so I'm hoping for some summer sunshine!

Background~ So for our wedding we are planning on getting married outside at the home of a close family friend. He lives in an amazing home that has a back yard that overlooks a gorgeous green valley. We always talked about having something more non traditional, laid back, with the people that are most important to us (ps. I won't use the word 'intimate' because there will be between 100-150 people attending the ceremony alone) Following in the ceremony we will be serving hors d'oeurves and cocktails (his home gorgeous indoor and outdoor bars wired with surround sound) so guests can mingle and enjoy themselves a little while we do pictures and before heading out-
FastForward2Today~ I was in denial about the weather, we are getting married on August 8th, almanac weather shows that there hasn't been rain in years. When people asked "What if it rains??", I just said "..It won't", and they'd say" ..but what if it does".. i said "It Won't..) Now that it's closer, REALITY CHECK TO SELF: I need to be ready for anything- no matter how much I dream of getting married outside!
We don't want a church, so I've been thinking- we have a gorgeous historical State Theatre that you can rent for private events, etc. So Im thinking this would be a great location in case of rain- it's beautiful, downstairs behind the stage there are prep rooms that we can use while we get our hair done by FIs sister (shes a hair stylist) adn pre weddign prep, we can use the huge lobby for a cocktail hour, and it is only a block from the reception location. Plus, I'm just imagining the gorgeous pictures we could take around and about.
What do you think? Has anyone else been in denial? Found the perfect back up space?
