So I can't kick this feeling that I'm so far behind in life. I'm pretty young but still...I met my fiancee at age 19-20 and we bought our first home together when I was 21.I have also been financially independent since age 18 by choice (because I'm a stubborn brat and I didn't like the rules at home). I'm now 24 and I'm still not done with my bachelors 7 years later. I know I've accomplished a lot of stuff, but I feel kind of like a loser. I don't know...I'm just feeling lame. I will be done in May of 2010 but I just want it to get here already.

I understand the feel when you have been in school forever, I describe it as neverending purgatory. But honey, you are financially independent! You have a home! You are the minority! So many who have degrees and accomplished have not done this. You are my age. We have our whole life ahead of us. It helps to have a plan. What do you want to do when you graduate?

My degree is in Accounting. I have been offered a promotion upon graduation in my current retail position, but I really don't want to stay there. I honest to God just want a normal 9-5 Monday through Saturday job. I have a ridiculous schedule now because of my retail position, I've been there almost 3 years and am just burned out. I live in Las Vegas so I can  go work for one of the casinos in their accounting dept. I also am good friends with some people at some places that could hook it up but all these wonderful jobs wont be available until after I graduate. BLEGHHHH!

It's ok to do things backwards.  Don't you sometimes like to eat dessert first?

I think I'd rather own a house and still be in school than own a house, not be in school, and looking for a job.  People at least understand if you're slightly older than "the norm" and in college.  They don't understand once you're out that a person with a job offer isn't just going to fall into your lap.

I took an extra year from 08-09, and worried I was going to be "that old person", graduating at 24.  I've had a number of friends in college that were 25+ when they graduated.  Some who had changed majors more times than I had fingers, others who started late for whatever reason... whatever.  I did have a friend who was 27 and was making it a point to graduate in may, because he wanted to say he'd finished by the time he got to his 10 yr hs reunion.

***correction Monday through Friday, I'm a hard worker but not that hard!

@Surkim- Of all my high school friends I'm the last one left, that's the tough part. Also when you go on Facebook and it tells you everyone graduated a ton of years ago, or when the not so smart friend of mine graduated with her masters also in Accounting....hmmm i'm just a dork

You've accomplished so much already though! You found someone you love and who loves you back, you've bought a house, you're about to graduate, you're financialy independent. I'd say that's a lot of good things there! I'm still working on my undergrad and I just turned 26. I know some people in their early to mid 30's still working on getting their undergrad degree. So you're fine graduating at 24! It stinks when your friends have already finished and moved on to grad school or jobs, but I bet none of them have a home yet! We all do things at our own pace.

Oh honey! You are so much further along than I am! The fact that you own your own home is so, so amazing to me! I'm 23 and I have my degree, but I am NOT financially independent from my parents and it absolutely kills me. I'm trying to find a new job but with the economy being what it is, things are hard! You ahve accomplished so much and that little piece of paper does NOT tell you how much you've REALLY accomplished.
