On a small main street, in a small town, ran comletely over into the oncoming traffic lane by a semi-driver who was switching lanes, with his head up his butt apparently.
I was SO mad. And of course, I couldn't get the "how do you like my driving?" # off the back of his truck in time.
UGH.
I was biking, in the bike lane, on a one-way street, going the legal direction. Some guy pulling out of a gas station parking lot turned in my direction, MADE EYE CONTACT WITH ME, and floored it out of the lot right as I was in front of him. A$$hole hit me and appeared surprised when I turned up on the hood of his car. Luckily, he was accelerating from a dead stop in a crappy car, so he wasn't going fast enough to cause any real damage (other than some bruises and sore muscles), but christ! The dude didn't even apologize, and I was too stunned to do anything except gimp away on my bike. By the time I got to class, though, I was livid and furious with myself for not even writing down his license plate.
@okqueenbee - And seriously, what chance does one have against a semi? That would have been satisfying to call that 1-800 number though, sheesh.
@redherring - Oh my gosh! I'm glad you weren't hurt even worse... what is it with drivers hating bikers? Or drivers being completely blind to bikers? I've heard so many horror stories like yours, it's awful.
I drive a mountain road (HWY 17 for you Bay Area bees) every day to work. Almost everyday I am cut off or almost slammed into! I think it is because people don't see me in my little VW! It is so obnoxious! I want to buy a big SUV just so I can drive like an idiot.
One time I was stuck behind a guy in a truck who could not keep it in one lane. He kept swerving all over, so I couldn't pass him. At one point he swerved so far he was 100% in the other lane, so I thought he got over on purpose to let me pass. I started speeding up and as my front bumper was almost level with his rear bumper he swerved back over super fast! I laid on the horn and slammed on my brakes, but I don't think he noticed.
He did the same thing as I was exiting the freeway! My exit is on an "exit only" lane and he got over to the middle lane, decided he wanted to be in the "exit only," then seconds later realized it was "exit only" and swerved back in the center lane and almost hit another car! I called 911 to report him but who knows if he was ever pulled over.
@ redherring - Geez!!! I would have been so PO'd, but like you, probably too shocked to even do anything at that point! People can be so stupid! I swear, I think some people get their driver's license out of those quarter machines in grocery stores!
Hwy 17 is horrible Jojo! Be careful driving that every day! (Mr. DG is from the other side of the mountain in LG)
You want to see bad drivers? Come to Seattle. They are very polite, they don't honk, and they don't. know. how. to. drive!
I love Seattle. I hate the drivers!
Mrs DG - It is dangerous, but it's my way of life now. I haven't been able to get a job in Santa Cruz since I quit my last one, so I work in Los Gatos. We love living in SC and really really don't want to move, especially to San Jose area (there's no way we could aford a decent place in LG). We would like to eventually buy a house in Scotts Valley.
Actually I was exiting on to my exit to go home her in sacramento. right behind me out of NOWHERE this guy is flooring it. Well im going the speed limit so he has to SLAM on the breaks not to hit me. he was pissed and flipping me off and yelling at me. I ignored it...well he didnt like that..so he would speed up and tap my bumber, back up, repeat! I was so scared again I just ignored it hoping he would give up. well he didnt...he sped up and cut me off and SLAMMED on the breaks hoping i would hit him. Well I didnt and so he drove to the end of the exit and sat in the middle of the road...waiting for me...blocking all traffic. its scared the s*** out of me! I went really sloww until other cars forced him to leave. but man was I shaking.
@Osakagrl, that is MESSED UP. I'd be shaking too, or crying. :(
Some days, I wish I had a chauffeur! Let someone else deal with the craziness.

Aw man, why do people give you the finger when they almost ran YOU over? I always try not to let it ruin my mood but it always makes me cranky for the next couple hours.
What's the worst driving, not-your-fault story you have? I feel like I've been almost hit several times the past couple days, and totally not my fault. I swear.
