I was so excited- my mantilla style veil I ordered from www.weddingveil.com had just arrived.

I opened it up and the first thing I noticed were black stains (looked like grease or just filthy thread used to sew the pattern) that would appear right near my face when wearing the veil.  On closer inspection there were spots all over the edging (it looked like they used some kind of heat to cut the veil and it left burnt pieces on all the edges).

I'm going to return the veil, but I don't think that I'll get another from them for several reasons.

Looking at the veil I could see where there were mistakes in the edging pattern- frayed bits of veil where they didn't trim it properly, pieces of the design flapping off the edge, holes in the veil amongst the lace, etc.

Further, they ask how you will wear your hair- I explicitly stated that I wasn't sure if I would wear the mantilla in the traditional style, as a drop veil, or pinned at the back of my hair.  Why then did they GLUE the comb to the veil so that it would only be worn in the traditional style?  (On the order form they tell you to be very specific when describing how you'll wear you hair- why bother asking if they aren't going to listen?!)

And the colors they provide don't match my dress.  I requested swatches from them- they are just tiny bit of the mesh veil- how can you tell color from that?!  It looked like it matched my Ivory David's Bridal dress, but to be certain I e-mailed them and explicitly asked if their colors matched DB.  They e-mailed me back saying "Yes, our colors match".  Well, I have the veil and my dress and they don't match.  The veil is much yellower than my dress.

I can't express how disappointed I am about this.  WeddingVeil.com got all good reviews from other brides here on WeddingBee.  I wish I could say the same.

Hopefully they will be responsible and allow me to return this for a full refund (including shipping, etc.).

I just got off the phone with their customer service after they threatened to sue me if I shared my bad experience online!

I explained that I wanted a full refund- including the shipping costs (because the veil was dirty and the edges were burned) and the woman got very angry with me.

She said they could exchange it, and my veil must be one in one thousand that has a problem.  I told her that I didn't want to do that because I didn't trust that it wouldn't be dirty and burned.

She accused me of lying when I said I had gotten an e-mail response from the company saying their colors matched DBs colors (she claimed I would have to send in a swatch of my dress to have an exact match- there was no mention of that in the e-mail response I got).

Ugh.  I'm out $20 for shipping in both directions just to return it.

I finally gave up when she threatened to call her lawyer to sue me!  I told her that I had read on numerous forums that their company was reliable, but that given this experience that I would be going back to post about my own negative experience.  She said something along the lines of, "You can do that.  I will call a lawyer and we will sue you for doing that!"

Yikes.  I'm glad others have had a good experience, but I will not be dealing with them again.

WOW, that is crazy. I don't think they can sue you if you are being truthful. But I'm not a lawyer.

I used veilshop.com and couldn't have been more pleased. They sent free samples to select the best color and the final veil was exactly what I wanted.

oh thats a bunch of phooey.  I guess i have to say "i'm not a lawyer" but from my understanding posting a negative review of truthful information is completely within your right.

Actually while reading your post I thought, hmm she had such a bad experience with them- but it seems like a unique mistake made by wedding veil and I'm sure they'll correct it.  What is soooooooooo off putting is their threat not their mistake.  Ugh.

    rosychicklet,

You can always try to dispute your charges with your credit card company and report them to the BBB.

I'm sorry to hear about such an awful experience. I have been dealing with Veil Shop so far and they have been pleasant.

Please keep us posted about what happens. Although many brides haven't had problems with them, it's good that you posted this because people need to know that WHEN this DOES happen, how the company handles the situation. Evidently, they're not very professional at all.

I did call my credit card company and started a dispute record.  I'm going to give weddingveil.com a chance to rectify this before disputing it.

The policy on their website clearly states that if you need to return/exchange an item due to an error on their part, they will refund the cost of the item as well as the shipping.  I think sending a veil that's dirty and burned qualifies as an error on their part.

I hope they do the right thing.  However, at this point, after being threatened with legal action, it won't change my opinion of them.  I'm worried that they will try to blame the damage on me and refuse to refund it (since they already accused me of lying about the e-mail correspondence I had with them prior to ordering).

She can't sue you.  I would have told her to call her lawyer... and then disputed it with the credit card company.  I would take pictures of the veil before sending it back though, as proof it was dirty and frayed

Just a follow-up.  In case anyone considering this vendor.  Even though their return policy states that they will cover the costs of return shipping if the error is theirs- they would not.  They were very unsympathetic.  So, while they did refund me the cost of the veil- the did not refund me any of the shipping costs (either the cost to send it to me, or the cost I incurred sending it back).

Here are some images of the veil:

You know, I actually bought my veil from WeddingVeil.com and I had a totally smooth experience. I never post on these sites, but after I did a search on WeddingVeil.com, I saw some weird comments....I just had to share my thoughts.

I don't know about your experience, but I have to tell you that I had a great time purchasing my veil on-line through WeddingVeil.com. Fast, efficient, high-quality.... it's a perfect place for the no nonense bride to get a veil. And I definitely got what I wanted. In fact, I have to say that using WeddingVeil.com was the smartest thing I did during my planning process.. saves you time, money, and worries.

Overall, I think it's a great bay area company and I would highly recommend this to all of my friends!

    Hey Mr. Bee,

We've got another vendor attempting to rectify the "damage." ^^^

I tend to be a bit of a lurker but posts like this make me happy I joined Weddingbee.  It is the reaction that this company had and the above poster than maes me see the dark side of the wedding business.  Thank goodness I have my mother's veil

Happygirl10 has posted only two times, and both both times she's exclusively posted about WeddingVeil.com... raving about the company.

We'll leave it to readers to determine whether or not to trust her reviews...

Lmao @ happygirl....not so happy anymore are you? I wonder how you found this. Google huh? Hmmm.

If you read this, you should really practice good customer service. You treated this woman terribly and then had the nerve to tell her that you're gonna sue her!! Do you know how many brides are on here who may read this? This will make them not want to do business with you. And FYI - you can not sue someone for posting truthful statements.
