Find someone else. You do not want your alterations to be a rush job. Totally listen to your gut vibe on this (and any other vendor).
I agree. I would find someone else...you still have a couple weeks to get in to see another seamstress. I wouldn't want someone who I don't feel comfortable with to start pinning and working on my dress...What have you been able to dig up on Weddingwire for reviews/referrals? Good luck.
Is 2.5 months out too early for a first fitting? I was so confused about the timing for this - I was thinking I had more time.
FIND SOMEONE ELSE!! seriously you dont want your dress to be done in a rush. I know it may be weird but she should remember at least a little of her brides when you guys spoke over the phone. You are paying her for a service not like she's doing you a favor, its not your problem their workers are going on vacay. My seamstress did my dress in about 2 weeks and she was really nice, always remembered me and she had lotsss of brides. Go with your gut!!
and congrats on losing 25 pounds!
My bridal shop (who does alterations in house) said the first fitting should be 6-8 weeks out, then the second 3-4 weeks out, and the final fitting one week before.

I like to learn from other people's experiences/mistakes and this whole wedding planning thing is full of a lot of firsts for me, so I'm looking for some words of wisdom in this situation so I'm not kicking myself later.
The wedding is on March 24th and I needed an independent seamstress for my dress, because the place I bought it from doesn't do alterations and it was not located near me either, so I couldn't even use their recommendation. I found a seamstress who had great reviews and was near me, so I called her all the way back in October/November (Twice, actually), to find out from her how soon I should come in for my first fitting, how far in advance I need to book an appointment with her, etc.
She seemed very non-chalant about it, saying I could come in any time I wanted to, but I didn't want to go in too soon only to have my body continue to slim down (I've lost 25 lbs and plan to lose 5-10 lbs more), so I asked if I could schedule my first fitting for right after the Holidays. She said no problem and said I could call the same week to schedule my appointment. She made it sound like it was very lax.
I called her this morning hoping to schedule an appointment for next weekend and she asked me when my wedding was (she didn't seem to remember me from the last time we spoke, understandably) and suddenly it was like an emergency. She said I had to come in right away, because she was going to be on vacation for two weeks, and one of her employees would be on vacation for three weeks, so I had to come in right away.
She wanted me to come in tonight, but she's only open til 6 and I can't get out of work early today. Then, she wanted me to come in on Monday, but I work full time and again, it's too short notice to take the time off to get there before she closes.
I finally got her to let me come in tomorrow at Noon, but I wasn't prepared at all for it. I am now nervous that she's flakey and I don't quite understand why it's such an emergency to come in 2.5 months before the wedding for a first fitting.
Am I being unreasonable? What should I do in this situation?
Thanks!
