Earlier tonight, my Mother-In-Law had us over for dinner and had fixed everyone a salad…I didn’t eat a ton of it, but I’m worried about possible contaminants in the lettuce, spinach, etc. Am I being crazy paranoid again? I hate that I worry so much about every little thing! I don’t eat salad stuff typically unless I have washed it myself…it’s not that I don’t trust her, but it’s not the same as cleaning it myself!
What do you guys think? I’m sure some of you eat them all the time!
On the plus side, I am 12w3d today and we got to hear the heartbeat via doppler at our last appointment. Exciting!

I eat bagged salad all the time; AFAIK it doesn’t need to be washed before eating. The reason that some sources suggest going for head lettuce instead is because there have been a few lysteria outbreaks in bagged salads. It’s best not to worry about every little thing that could possibly be bad for you or you might go crazy! 🙂 Congrats on the heartbeat!

@tnbellebee: I think you’re being paranoid. You’ll be fine. I mean theoretically you might read in the papers tomorrow that that particular batch was contaminated with e-coli, but how likely do you think that is?
People have been having kids for thousands of years… long before anything was sanitary.

Thanks to both of you! I’m going to forget about it! I know I’m being paranoid, but it seems like everyday I find some new thing that you’re not supposed to eat! I’m beginning to think that the only “safe” things are bread and crackers!

Despite the fact that it may say”prewashed” on the label, you really should wash it again.Speak to the many people who have developed infection from e coli, salmonella, listeria etc.

We have it all the time. It’s quick and simple.

I think it’s probably pretty safe. I eat bagged salad but I tend to rinse it before eating.

Thanks for all the replies. If I eat it again I’ll just wash it myself, but I’m going to quit worrying about the tiny bit that I consumed earlier tonight.
