Hoping you can help me and FI out. We decided to honeymoon in San Diego (yay!) and are now deciding between the Bahia Hotel and the Catamaran Resort. They’re both in the location we want and both have the same sort of resort/spa “feel” we want (aka, drinks by the pool!)…but just wondering if any of you honeymooned in these particular hotels and what your experiences were in terms of service, cleanliness, etc. We’ll probably be spending a lot of time in and near our hotel, so we want it to be a comfortable stay.
Thanks as always for your insight!

I haven’t honeymooned there, but I used to live in San Diego and I almost got married at the Bahia (on one of the Sternwheelers). One of my best friends got married on the beach at the Catamaran–and they had a great happy hour, so us locals would go there all the time.
Between the two, the Catamaran is a MUCH nicer hotel than the Bahia, and has a MUCH better beach–but bear in mind, BOTH hotels are fairly old and are showing their ages. They are both in the process of being remodeled and updated, but you have no guarantees you’ll get an updated room. For a honeymoon–personally, I wouldn’t stay at either of them. I actually think you’ll be disappointed.
If you’re looking for a place in Mission Bay, the Paradise Point Resort and Spa is MUCH nicer. However, it’s typically more expensive.
That said–if you can spring it, the Hotel Del Coronado is by FAR the best honeymooner hotel in San Diego. It’s AMAZING, and located on arguably one of the prettiest beaches in the area.
Other great picks are the Loews Coronado Bay Resort, the Grand Del Mar, the Lodge at Torrey Pines, or the Inn at Sunset Cliffs. There are many others, but those are extremely memorable.
Point is, there are MANY great hotels in San Diego. I’d recommend checking Tripadvisor and Yelp before you decide. Tripadvisor in particular is good at finding real, honest, travel reviews.
