Some of my favorites include:
http://www.nightkitchenbakery.com in the Germantown/Chestnut hill area
and
http://www.bredenbecks.com/weddingcakes.php
both bakeries are pretty affordable too.
Also try Brown Betty in Liberties Walk. NOt too sure on the pricing but their cupcakes are to die for. They have wedding cakes on display at their bakery.

Ah yes, my old boss used to bring in treats from Brown Betty's -- I loved their stuff (and the cute packaging
). Forgot about that place, so thanks for reminding me!
My fiancee and I are getting married very close to where you are - at the Valley Forge Freedoms Foundation. My first place to check out is Bakers of Buffington in Downingtown. Everyone I know swears by them, and they start $2.20 a person. I'll be meeting with them right around Christmas and can tell you how it goes! I've also heard that Clays Cakes in Berwyn is good, but they were a bit more expensive.
I've also heard that Bakers of Buffington in Downingtown is good, we went with all-organic Haika's in Allentown. Clays Creatives (right off Route 30) in Berwyn is an institution, I've used them for numerous events in the last 15 years.

Hello, hive! Does anyone have any good recommendations for affordable bakeries in the Philadelphia area that have nice wedding cakes? Our cake is included in the package at our reception venue, but I have heard some negative reviews about the baker and would like to start researching other options (we'll get $2 per head taken off of our venue price if we don't get the cake through them, which is why I'd like to find someplace affordable as to not go too far beyond what we'd already be paying). Aside from the negative reviews on service, I have heard that the included baker does not do well with requests for modern-looking cakes. I am a fan of modern-looking cakes (a la Mrs. Bell Pepper's cake!) and not so much a fan of flowery cakes, so bakers who do great work that might fit my taste would be great
Thanks!
