For our wedding we will be making our own cupcakes, cookies, pies, danties & food.
Yup, we are insane.
However, FMIL has offered her culinary prowess for the food side & my mother (who I inherited my sweet tooth from) has offered to help with some of the sweet treat baking.
Also my aunt is a professional baker who will be making the small cake (for cutting) & sharing the recipe so I can make matching cupcakes if I want.
So, I am not alone in the daunting task, but it is still going to be a huge job :)
I just spent 10 hours decorating cupcakes with my sister for my BIL's holiday party at school tomorrow.
The first is a walrus, or the angry walrus as we named him. Then a polar bear, then a snowman (duh).

For our wedding, I made a couple of things myself: A cherry pretzel pie, chocolate chip cookies, and homemade caramel (both for favours and then had the leftover caramel put out on our late night dessert buffet).
@bakerella: Amazing work. I love the angry walrus.
I baked my brothers wedding cake and will be making my own. I am making a 4 tier fondant monstrocity LOL!! It will be tons of work but I love baking and cake decorating is a hobby of mine.
@missmouse29: You are a very brave woman! If you have any leftovers feel free to ship them to me!
@bakerella: I want that walrus, he is freakin adorable!
@15happyyears: Fondant is not my friend, so you are my hero! I want to see pictures when it is all said and done!
My wedding was in October, and while we did have a cupcake/cake combo make by a baker, I also baked gingersnap cookies and blueberry muffins! :)
The reaction of my guests was totally worth it!! :)
@dodgercpkl: You can't show delicious muffins like that this early in the morning!
@upstatebroad: HAHA! I know right? My stomach was growling at me as I was finding them and posting! lol
now I want blueberry muffins.. and cookies.
it is a good thing that holidays start today :D
those are all super cute!
I am not so sure there will be any left overs (my dad refers to my moms family as "the horde" LOL), but there better be at least an extra cupcake for a midnight snack!
@upstatebroad: I get enlisted at every friends wedding to stock the dessert table. If you can turn it into a baking party with a bunch of dear friends it is a blast. We like to use gram's church as they have 3 ovens and lots of work space (donation of $25- we get frequent baking discount LOL).
I also get sucked in to doing many wedding cakes (my mom always did them). If you are going to attempt your own I recommend at least two trial runs if you intend to stack them, one if you are going to use the cake stands where every tier is separate. I also recommend you not just do a trial run at baking and decorating but transporting. Transporting is where everything goes wrong. Pick a friend who lives same distance away as what you will be transporting and suprise them with a cake!
With the right supplies and a lot of patience DIY wedding cakes are doable but nerve wrecking!
@secondchances: You are a saint. I couldn't fathom doing my one or anyone else's cake. It seems terrifying. But I do like the idea of trail cakes just for the fact that I would have yummy cake laying around!

With the holidays right around the corner and everyone, including myself, working feverishly in the kitchen to make delicious treats, like so:
Yummm, gingerbread and triple chocolate balls with cream cheese frosting and peppermint! Nom, nom, nom! I was curious to whether or not there are any brave bees out there embarking on the challenge of making your own desserts for your wedding (or someone else's)? I think I could handle cupcakes, or pie, but a cake I think not.
So are there any brave bees out there?
