@BlondeBride090211: My FI and I are doing Bali too! We were thinking about Bora Bora but.. well.. it does seem a bit boring to us. We wanted somewhere neither of us have been before (which pretty much eliminates africa, and europe.. and some of asia).. and wanted a place with a lot of history and culture.. and seeing that we are on the west coast now.. somewhere that we might not have thought about if we were still on the east coast. Bali seemed perfect to us. Our tickets are going to be about 3000$ though which is a major downfall. .but for us it is still the perfect destination. I picture us trecking in Ubud in the day.. our hotel surrounded by crazy monkeys.. and Nusa Dua by the beach.. (we also plan on splitting our time between both) but the island is small and can be driven coast to coast in a day so we will definately be making day trips to the temples and such. We will be staying at the Royal Pita Maha in Ubud and not sure where in Nusa Dua yet.

fyi, bali and thailand are popular aussie destinations – are you planning on going after your wedding? if yes, you will miss the aussie school holiday period (starts Sept 25th i think)  which is when prices usually go up

We just booked our tickets to Bali and are beyond excited!  Definitely more to do than French Polynesia and much more affordable, esp activities, etc.  Gotta love that!  I feel like we can splurge in Bali and still stay within our budget easily without worrying about it.

We plan on staying in Ubud for about 5 days, and then either Nusa Dua/Sanur/Semiyak for 3-4, and a third destination I have decided yet.

We live in a beach tourist destination so I’d like to do more of the countryside, central region.  But I’ll still enjoy the water!  Just remember that Bali’s beaches are not by any means, fabulous.  But they are there.
