Do you ever feel weird about having a princessy dress? A lot of the threads I read seem to be really against them, there's a lot of backhanded remarks it seems. (About strapless as well!)
I LOVE my dress, but sometimes I feel dumb or like I'm wrong for wanting a big dress on my wedding day. I know its to each her own, but still I'd love to talk to some other "big gown" Bees!
I consider my dress a 'big' dress, and no one in my family wanted me to get it. I think the main thing is that you feel beautiful in your dress, and that's all that matters.
this is my dress:

i disagree, i think there are many people on here that are all about the ballgown! never let anyone make you feel dumb :) my dress wasn't a huge big gown, but it was sorta "princessy" and definitely strapless! do you have a pic of your dress to share?? here's mine:

@ceamoste: Why did noone want you to get it? Its beautiful!
My FMIL went shopping with mine, and she kept picking out these little slinks of a dress LOL. But she was fully supportive of my big froofy one as well.
I love my stapless ballgown. Here's a pic! I love that it is timeless, classy, and has a bit of sex appeal. Plus, what other time will I be able to wear a cathedral train? Don't second guess yourself!!
I also love other more evening wear like wedding gowns. Of course, I just felt like there would be other times for me to wear dresses like that.
@Kemi82JP: I LOVE your dress! Who's it by? You look gorgeous in it!
@Belle2Be: In the end I was between that dress, and another a-line dress. Everyone wanted me to choose the a-line because it was more 'slimming' and figure flattering. That's kind of the complete opposite of the ball gown I ended up choosing haha.
@Kemi82JP: Is that the one from DB with pockets? You look gorgeous!
Here's mine...VERY princessy LOL. A
OMG ALL of your dresses are sooooo pretty! It makes me feel even more comfortable with my decision!
I loved my big dress and everyone at the wedding love it!
I feel like there is a negative connotation surrounding ballgowns; however, I loved every minute I spent in my dress and would do it again in a second!

Dont worry, ballgowns are just not trendy at the moment. The mermaid gowns with tons of rouching are in style. Personaly I dont like rouching but it looks good on a lot of people. I think it is difficult to find a flattering ballgown. However, to me, ballgowns feel more timeless. As long as you like your dress it doesnt matter and most the people at your wedding wont even know the trends in wedding gowns these days.
@ OP THANK YOU!!! I have a classic vintage romance theme going for the wedding, so that was the look I was hoping for!!
@angiexox: Oooh good point, I didn't even think of that! I tried a mermaid on, but it's wasn't really "me". Maybe it's one of those childhood things :D
@ceamoste: and @Belle2Be: Thank you!! Belle you're dress is gorgeous, don't let anyone tell you otherwise! no mine's not the DB dress, it's by Augusta Jones, the Chenoa style. i LOVED it!! it actually kills me to think about the DB dress: a very similar style for like 1/5 the price?? AH! i couldn't believe it when i saw it. i know there's a massive difference in quality but man, that is crazy.
@ceamoste: I don't want to threadjack- but I got that dress too! I was having a little dress regret b/c I was worried maybe it was too big.
@Belle2Be: I get what you mean about feeling silly in a bigger dress. I asked FI what he thought of the slightly fuller gowns and he said "I'm not sure how crazy I am about big dresses, but how often in your life do you wake up and put on a big white dress?"I think I found a good compromise for myself.
@Kemi82JP: Oh sorry! The material does look different I just wasn't sure. I LOVED the DB one but it made me look pregnant :/ I didn't even think to look for a similar one that wouldn't do that.
@Belle2Be: Your dress is BEAUTIFUL! I love the look of it! It's stunning really. Wear it with pride because you're going to make a gorgeous bride!
@Treasure43: Thanks :) I do love it, I just feel silly I guess sometimes. And that picture doesn't do it justice (they rarely do, right?), The beading and details are sooo pretty...
@Belle2Be: aw no, when i said it kills me it's cuz i wish i had looked at DB in the first place. i always wrote that place off cuz i've always seen it as the "walmart" of wedding boutiques but it's SO not anymore and i really should have noticed that. i think the DB style is great! i've seen SO many gorgeous dresses from there on brides around the internet. i just assumed the DB style is not real silk, and i assumed it didn't have the same inner structure that mine did. since you tried it on, can you tell me if it did? mine had a corset built in on the inside that laced up under the outter zipper so it def avoided that pregnant look lol. and it had a sweet row of covered buttons just from the top of the back to the bottom of the waistline, i loved that detail :)

@Kemi82JP: I don't think it had alot of structure, seems like it was a zip up. It did this pucker out thing that didn't look so great. I told my FMIL that I'm getting that dress if I get pregnant though LOL!
ETA I love the buttons look!
when i first started looking for dresses, i thought the LAST thing i wanted was a princess dress or any pouf whatsoever...especially because i am getting married on a beach! but as soon as i tried on princess-y dresses just to see, well..., i felt like a princess!!
so this is what i ended going with, everything about it is what i said i did NOT want when i imagined my dress, but now i LOVE it and cannot wait to wear it!
ps. Belle2Be, i LOVE your dress!
I don't have a picture of it, but imagine Belle's dress from Beauty and the beast, in ivory and without straps and you've got my gown.
I love it, I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Here's me in the DB one, you can't really see but it looked terrible from the side and was ust kinda awkward on me- Sorry for the camera phone pic!
I wore a ball gown and also felt like ppl were looking down on my decision. I figured they thought of me as the stereotypical young bride wearing a princess dress b/c I didn't know better or b/c I didn't know what flattered me. BUT I loved it and it was the exact look I was going for. I loved looking like a traditional bride!

@PurpleUnicorn: That dress is GORGEOUS! Great choice, beach or no beach!
@KaitlinHudson: Do you have a name or number? I bet I could find it on google!
If I had been able to find a big princessy dress in my budget and with straps (much like Belle2Be's gorgeous find, I totally would have gone for it.
My dress was still pretty big, and I felt like Grace Kelly in it!

@JewishBride: Ooh I really like that one too! I love the waist, how it goes across and then diagonal. And it is VERY flattering on you! I don't really know why people think ball gowns aren't?
It's interesting - I'm finding more and more that sometimes people get *really* opinionated about weddings such that, as you're saying, they look down on decisions of others about their own wedding, like the dress! I just feel like, if that's the dream the girl had, then yay, she's getting her wish and that means she's happy! Who cares what you would wear at yours, or what you think is in style? If it makes you feel like a rock star, then go for it!
I had a sales attendant say to me the other day, "so, that style that's really exotic to you and bad-ass and is nothing at like what you would wear every day? THAT'S what your wedding dress should be. Whatever the style is!" The comment really resonated with me.
Ballgown dresses aren't my thing for me, but I think you all look rockin in your gowns!
@catlin63: I agree 100%! I read backhanded comments sometimes, and think, You know, just because MY dress is a different style doesn't mean I can't fully appreciate another style on another Bee! There are actually very few dresses I dislike, and those are mostly those "high fashion" ones...
I wore a huge ballgown and LOVED it! I had always wanted a big wedding dress. I think I would not have felt like my wedding day was everything I had imagined it to be if I didn't wear a ballgown.
tseay OMG!!! We are dress twins!!!
I have been on this board for forever, and you are the first one that I have seen with my our gown!!!
Here are some more pictures of it :-)
@noritake22:sooo pretty! I love the lace around the neckline part, how it's not a solid line, if that makes sense!
Is anyone doing colored crinoline under their dress?
@Belle2Be: Thank you :-)
And yes, I am doing the biggest crinoline I could find under my gown. Here is a picture:
It is not colored, but I am considering coloring it the same color as my shoes.
