I've been researching disposable bamboo plates. I hear they're very strong--you can even wash them and reuse them several times. They hold hot and cold and grease well. If you're talking about non-disposables--bamboo is a really strong and light material for plates and other kitchenware, I recommend it.
We used them at my work and they are great. Very study and durable, and nothing leaked through them. We ordered Eco-Ware bamboo plates and they are reusable too.
