Those are really cute! I wouldn't mind getting one as a favor!
I like the idea of felt and the ribbon with the thank you note. It would be simple and very easy. So much less stress! lol you might be able to make a little pillow out of the felt for the bottom of the steamers, kind of like a cushion for the tea bags.
somtimes the simplest presentations are the best.
If you have a Chinatown area near where you live, you can likely get red ribbon printed with good wishes in gold lettering.
You might wnat to use a pair of chopsticks or the double happiness symbol tied in with the bow of the ribbon.
These are so cute :) I still haven't picked what kind of favor boxes I want yet....I'm having a gourmet chocolate bar....(like the candy buffet trend). Except they are small hand made chocolates from the local chocolate shop.
I don't think you have to make a lot of changes. They are so cute and unique!
Thanks, girls! I do like the idea of making the felt into a little pillow but doing 130 of them... not so much. I guess I will just match the ribbon to our wedding colors (pinks and ivories) and call it a day? :)
oohhh I really like those, they're simple and cute. Where did you find them? I've never seen them before.
Do a search for "mini bamboo steamer" and the cheapest option should be efavormart.com. I don't remember where I saw them, on one of the wedding websites. It fits perfectly with the paper cranes that will be the other major feature of my decor!
I don't think you need to use felt to cover the bottom...that will make it a really tough project! Maybe just use cardstock? Something sturdy in your wedding colors? Then you could just buy a punch for it instead and 130 would be done in less than an hour! For decorating the outside, honestly I don't think you need to do much, they are just so darned cute on their own! But a little tag attached to the loop on the top would be cute and easy!
Ooh interesting thought, a punch... do you think they make them that big? These steamers are 3.5" in diameter. They are also not all perfectly round though, so I'm afraid I'd have to either make a smaller circle (like 3.25") or adjust each circle to fit each steamer.
I'd just make a smaller circle and tack it down with a dab of glue. Just do it so the tea bags won't fall through. You could test out different diameters with regular paper. I know JoAnns has punches that big, so probably Michael's does too. You could see if they have different shapes. Some are just circles, some are scalloped circles, and some are flowery shaped.
The scalloped circles sound really cute. I'll take a look at Michael's. Thanks for the idea!!
I'm also using these cute mini steamers as my wedding favor boxes. I am placing 1 fortune cookie and a tea sachet. I'm also trying to get personalized satin ribbon and complete the look with a diamond-shaped tag with our names and wedding date on it. What type of ribbon did you decide to use? I am debating with whether to use a per-piece or continuous print ribbon.
Best wishes
I am thinking about using these mini steamers as favor boxes for fortune cookies. Does anyone know how many cookies could fit in one? Thanks!

Has anyone used mini bamboo steamers as favor boxes? We are using them to store two bags of tea each, one that's his favorite (Earl Gray) and one that's mine (Jasmine/Green). Problem is, I don't really know how to decorate them. They have slats on the inside so you can see through and I'm worried the tea bags might fall out. I thought about either cutting out felt circles or stuffing them with some tissue paper (easier).
Also, to close them up, I was just going to tie a ribbon around them, maybe with a small "thank you" tag - is that boring? Is there anything else I can do to make them a little cuter without a ton of effort? All suggestions appreciated! Thanks!
