Hi Bees! We have had our band booked for our June 15 reception since last February and are very excited about having some live music! My most recent concern is that the band really doesn’t come with any of their own lighting. The reception place has spotlights for centerpieces and track lighting around the dance floor, but we don’t have any BIG spot lights or different colored lights to show off the band or the dance floor. Will it be too dark? Has anyone had a band or DJ with no lighting other than what is available in the room?

You need to hire additional lights through the venue (if the have pinspots for the centrepieces then they will almost certainly have their own supplier). It’s very usual for bands to come without lighting, they bring the instruments. But they need light to see, simple as that really. And as for the dance floor, I’m sure you’ll want a bit more atmosphere. Hope that helps.

Lighting is fave detail of mine, so I’d go with hiring someone, renting the equipmet, or even DIY

@ladyartichoke: I thought the same thing – why wouldn’t the band come with their own lights simply for them to see and be seen? The band is part of a bigger company that offers lighting packages, but dance floor lighting starts at $2k which I thought was a bit pricey.
@MzJynxie: I love lighting too! I guess I have to figure out how to afford it.
Thanks for the advice ladies!
