We dreamed of honeymooning on a Mediterranean cruise but since we moved the wedding up a year sooner we decided to stay somewhat local and save the cruise for our one year anniversary.  We both love the Maine coast and have always wanted to explore Acadia National Park so we're heading to Bar Harbor for our honeymoon.  Does anyone know that area to recommend things to do, restaurants, hotels, etc.?

I LOVE Bar Harbor!!! Make sure you eat at Rupununi's and try the crab cakes. I have eaten there twice in one day before and had crab cakes both times. Another great place is Galyn's. Don't forget to make a reservation at the Jordan Pond House at least to have drinks and popovers. THe popovers are heavenly. I've never had anything else like them.

We ususally stay at budget places up there like the Villager so we can walk to all the shops and restaurants but since you are on your honeymoon, you might want a little more luxury than that. The Blue Nose Inn is really nice but pricey. There's the Bar Harbor Grand as well. You might look into renting a private residence on VRBO.com.

I've been on a kayak tour which was awesome. THey teach you how for about 20-30 min. and then take you out in the bay. I still haven't been on a whale watch tour because both times I booked it was cancelled due to fog:-( Of course you'll want to drive up to the top of Cadillac Mtn for the views. Then there's all the carriage trails to hike or bike. Sand Beach if you want to lay out (get there early - it's crowded!)

You will have an awesome honeymoon there!

Thanks Arizonabride....I've added all your advice in my 'travel folder' for Bar Harbor!  FI just called and said he booked a week in a King Oceanfront room with a private balcony at the Bar Harbor Inn.  Any input on our hotel would be greatly appreciated :-)

The Bar Harbor Inn is beautiful and you're going to have a spectacular view! I've had drinks and appetizers there but have never stayed there. You'll be right in the center of everything. I would check out tripadvisor.com for the reviews of the place.

I'm sure you've read about the shore path, but don't miss it!

I love Bar Harbor, we try to go up once a year.  If you love lobster, def go to a lobster pound.  Our fave is Lunts Lobster Pound located on Bar Harbor Rd in Trenton (on your way to BH, prob 10 mins).  Jordan's Pound House does have the best popovers.  Another good place for sandwiches and the best lemon squares is this old time market in the center of town (I forgot the name!), take them up with you to the top of Cadillic Mtn for a great picnic idea!  Cafe This Way is the best for breakfast.  Hope that helps!

You MUST go to breakfast at the Jordan Pond House for popovers with jam!  They are absolutely divine!  Also, if you like the idea of kayaking, one of the companies (whose name is escaping me) does sunset lessons where they teach you, you go about, and you see the sun setting towards the end.

FI and I have been trying to decide on a honeymoon location (he wanted Alaska, I wanted tropical) so we are looking for alternative options. When I read about Bar Harbor, Maine I decided that it was something to look into...well after looking we both love it! I'm hoping to book it soon!

There are like a million restaurants everywhere! Some of the best seafood and pies on the planet! When are you going? We were there in early October and it was COLD and snowy. There are many options for your stay - anything from little cottages to luxury hotels. Do not limit yourselves to Bar Harbor and Acadia though, there's lots to do in the surrounding area! Enjoy and bring warm clothes, even in the summer it can get nippy!
