I've been using Bare Escentuals since the end of last summer and I really really like it! I have had problems with foundation in the past where my skin would feel really clogged or oily. With BE my skin looks and feels much better when I'm wearing makeup all day long. I was nervous about trying it out at first cause it seemed like a lot of effort to put on, but now I have the process down and I love it
I know that its a mineral based makeup powder. It is suppose to be light and subtle. Because its mineral based, it also has some SPF properties to it.
I think there are a lot of brands/companies that are the same - mineral based foundation, but bare escentuals is the one that seems to be doing the best. they've got a very good marketing strategy and are very user friendly with their how to videos, kits, etc..
I don't think there is anything bad about them. But, since you are using brushes for application, don't forget to clean your brushes! =)
I LOVE bare escentuals. I'm actually out of foundation and I hate using my MAC foundation now. BE is so light yet covers well. It helps my face stay clean and oil free. I also notice how it helped keep my face clear. I say definately go for it!
i've been using bare escentuals for years. i typically dislike liquid foundation because it doesn't stay on my skin. BE does and gives great coverage. their other products are great too, like their mineral veil and their buxom lip glosses. i would suggest you take a trip to a cosmetics store (like sephora, ulta or the bare escentuals store) and try it out for yourself. warning, women either love it or hate it.
I guess I have to go against the grain here and say that I don't like it. I tried it about a year and a half ago and I actually find that it feels very heavy on my skin and it didn't blend well and made me look like I was wearing a lot of makeup (which is the opposite of what it is supposed to do). That being said, I am the only person I know who has tried it but wasn't happy with it, so it may just be my skin tone, or perhaps I am crazy. (not ruling either out) I tried it again on a number of occasions and finally decided it just isn't for me. I also don't like the brush. I had to return the first one I got because the hairs kept falling out and the new one isnt much better. My suggestion would be to buy one product and try it before jumping into the deep end like I did and bought the entire starter kit, brushes, etc.
Thanks everyone who's answered so far! I'm going to meet the girl Sat, and we'll do a test run for all of us before the wedding, so if I hate it on me maybe I'll get mine done somewhere different? That's what my cousin did for hers, just because the chic she really wanted to do hers was too expensive to have do all of us. But it sounds like the odds are in my favor, so hopefully I'll like it!
I am NOT a makeup person- mascara and undereye concealer and i'm done. i have lots of freckles, and I always felt that "traditional" makeup was trying to cover them up. I love my freckles, and don't want to cover them up.
I initally used Loreals Mineral Makeup range- I thougth the colors were great, but I didn't love the applciators/intergral to the makeup.
I jumped in and bought the starter kit off BE website- and I love it. I feel like a more polished verison of myself. Viola!

I love the Bare Escentuals makeup-- it has good coverage and staying power, and I think it makes my skin look great. Just one "rumor" I've heard is that it can have a bit of a whitening effect in flash photos-- you might just want to check up on that. I'm not sure if that's just a bit of craziness floating around online.
I've been using BE for the past 3 or 4 years now and I love it from the very first time that I tried it on. Its a powder base with spf15. It doesn't clog my skin or make it oily. It gives great coverage with one or two applications and it'll last me for hrs as long you don't rub your face. My skin looks flawless and it doesn't turn orange like foundation.
Bare Escentuals is awesome if you don't have super-dry skin (like mine). I loved that it soothed my sensitive skin, covered redness with one quick swipe, and felt light on my skin. But my skin is insanely dry (I use two moisturizers, plus eye cream, plus vitamin E oil in some places), so it wasn't right for me. It sounds like a good option for your maid, so good luck!
I bare escentuals powder for my foundation everyday because I have very sentive skin and rosacea. But I will not be wearing it on my wedding day because I heard that it just doesn't photograph very well. (a bride complained that although she looked great in person, she looked very pale in the pics because of the way the mineral-like shine picked up the light). Just something to think about, it could be fine. Maybe talk to your photographer or the makeup artist and just check out their opinion on the make-up in photos? hope that helps!
Thanks a ton from everyone! I forgot to follow up on this one. Had my make-up trial and loved the eyeshadow and everything, and the foundation was great in person, but it photographed really shiny when I got home. Since I have oily skin anyway, I don't need something that makes it look shinier in pictures! So I'm getting my own foundation (any recommendations? I was thinking MAC), and she said she'll use that along with the BE eye color and everything else.
Hi Liz! If you want to use mineral foundation, consider checking out Everyday Minerals or Silk Naturals for their matte finish foundations. Everyday minerals has a very, very wide selection of colors (www.everydayminerals) and you mix your own custom shade for Silk Naturals' foundation (www.silknaturals). Great thing is--they are half the price of BE and work great!
Liz- Bare Essentuals is great! It covers all my imperfections perfectly, but the problem with it is it's not really "photography" makeup. It's awesome for everyday use, but in pictures it will show up shiny since minerals have this "reflection." I learned this the hard way when my face came out super shiny in pictures at this gala I went to (it was a close-up picture anyway).
I'm not saying don't use it if this is the only option. Of course you want your friend to look and feel great, but keep in mind that it might not show up well in pictures.
I don't use foundation often, but when I do I turn to my Bare Essentuals. I like that I feel like I'm still wearing my skin. It's light, not cakey, and has SPF coverage. The thing that I don't like is how the powder can get messy with the "swirling" and "tapping" that you're supposed to do with the brush.
I absolutally love Bare Essentuals makeup! I am not a heavy makeup wearer first of all. My mom introduced me to the line about 3 years ago, and I have been crazy about it ever since. There foundation is so light and airy. You never feel like you are wearing makeup! They have a wonderful bronzer, blushes, and shadows in every shade imaginable. Even if you have to layer due to skin issues, you won't feel caked. I recommend this makeup to all skin types.
I love love love Bare Essentials too! I have never had any problems with it although when I first started using it I put it on way too heavy (I hread this is a common beginner mistake). I have been a loyal user for 3 years now and I cannot imagine ever switching. The foundations are $25 a piece and last me over 6 months. I just started using their eye shadows too which I love as well... totally not surprised.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about this type of make-up. Their site's pretty full of "we're SO awesome" but that doesn't tell me a lot about why I would like it.
One of my girls has Celiac Disease, which means she's severely allergic to wheat gluten. Which is in everything! I'm going to be paying to get their hair and make-up done, and I didn't want her to be left out because she's allergic to the make-up (she already can't eat any of the cake or food, can't eat much of anything at the rehearsal, etc.), so we're having her MUA that she uses from Bare Escentuals do it. I've seen the girl's work, so I think I'll be happy, but I'm just looking for a little more info about the products. Are they pretty good?
And preferably no horror stories, unless you're really sure I shouldn't use them. It's the only option for the one BM, and I really want to be able to do this for her.
