@myaltarego:  I actually just posted this on a similar thread.  The channel set engagement band is from a pawn shop ($100) and I put on a 1/2 carat moissanite (idk exactly how much…maybe $200?).

FI got this beaut at Diamonds Direct for $2000 on the dot. It’s .70 carat, E in color, brilliant cut. I’m not sure of the inclusion raiting, but there is a slight inclusion you can see by eye when it’s under direct sunlight, but I’m the only person that knows it’s there/notices it. The stone was mounted in a more intricate setting and the seller at DD said if FI liked the stone itself he could take it out and remount it in the simple band we wanted. He got the price because of the inclusion, but the color and cut are so high quality that it has an insane fire and I get SO many compliments on it. Very, very happy with FI’s choice, and that he didn’t break the bank!! 🙂

My ring was $795 from Helzberg diamonds. It’s 0.5 carats and I think we got a pretty good deal on it! Last I checked, It’s now selling for $1,300!

@myaltarego:  WELL. my FI’s ring was a good deal (mine was so not! lol). he bought me a Tacori ring (Tacori does not discount their rings), and when we went to our jeweler to look at matching bands, they told us if we bought the band that matches my ring, they would give us a deal on his ring. the band we bought him is tungsten. priced at $900, we got it for $200!

It certainly wasn’t a “bargain”…jewelry made out of diamond and gold never is (just compare the metal in the ring to the spot price for the same weight if you’re a masochist!)  but we did pay significantly less than average retail for what we got, woth absolutely zero compromise on quality or fair market value… we went to countless diamond sellers and jewelers to find just what we liked for just the right price… we haggled, haggled, haggled. Only worth doing if you enjoy that process! We did, though 🙂

My story is a little diferent. My fiance makes his own jewelry so he mines stones. He had mined a 3 gram flawless emerald. One thing to know about emeralds is they are rarely naturally flawless. There is a gem show in Tuscon every year where the worlds top gem cutters/dealers are. My fiance ran into a guy who is a big deal in the world of ethically sourced diamonds. When he saw the emerald he had, he wanted it badly. He explained that he was looking for a flawless emerald to cut for his wife but did not find them too often. He and my fiance traded stones. We got a flaless colorless 1.25 diamond.

He did this without my knowledge and surprised me one day. We got a pave split shank setting made from a friend for a great price that equals 1/3 carat. It makes me happy that my ring has an interesting story.

@ Glenda: I have heard of the gem show in Tuscon!  We found a jeweler that travels there every year and is on the lookout for the stone that we want.  I assume it is a commercial show?  It would be so interesting to attend if it were open to the public!  What a great story 🙂

This is my engagment ring, We bought if for 320 dollars off of kijiji.ca (used buy and sell site)

We looked at many jewerlly stores and we just didn’t want to pay full price, we kept looking for a better deal, someone had an add for this ring for  500, and we watched it, it went down to 450 then 350 came with a wedding band I didn’t like that so we sold that for 30$

@Glenda_the_good_witch:   What an incredible story!  Wow, I was a blown away reading about your FI finding a flawless emerald and trading it for a flawless diamond – you never hear things like that.  That is so cool!   I would love to see a pic of your ring, if you’d care to share  🙂

My ering was over 7k and that was with a 10% off discount. But we got a good deal on my two diamond wedding bands. They were almost $1100 each but we got 25% off on a mothers day sale, 10% off for military discount, another 10% off for using the store credit card, we had a $75 off coupon and a $50 off coupon, and got one lifetime warranty package free since the two bands will eventually be soldered to my ering making it one. After all that, each band came to  $600 each, $1200 total so I basically got one free!
