A family friend of mine had a similar probelm trying to find a venue that was rustic and barn like. They ultimately decided on this http://www.newjerseystatefair.org/conservatory/conservatory_social.cfm
It's not a barn but I think it would fit with your rustic theme- afterall it is at the sussex county fairgrounds :)
Happy happy christmas engagement! I think Gedney farm in Mass. is a barn and I went to a wedding once also at Old bethpage Village in Bethpage NY.
Thank you! Massachussets is a bit too far for my guests, ( I would do it, they just wouldn't come I'm afraid, or most of them at least!) but I'll see how far away Bethpage is)
I've been looking for something like what you're describing as well so here's what i've found, maybe it will help:
Crossed Keys Bed and Breakfast Inn:
289 Pequest Road ~ Andover, New Jersey 07821
The Raritan Inn at Middle Valley
526 County Road 513
Califon, NJ 07830
The Inn at Fernbrook Farms
142 Bordentown-Georgetown Road (Route 545), Chesterfield Township, NJ
The Wooverton Inn - InnInnkeepers: Carolyn McGavin & Bob Haas
6 Woolverton Road, Stockton, NJ 08559
The Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm
5281 York Road - Holicong, PA - 18928
The Chimney Hill Inn
207 Goat Hill Road ~ Lambertville, New Jersey (NJ) 08530
The Barn at Birchwood
385 Bridge Street - Collegeville, PA - 19426
Some of the websites do not do these sites any justice, and in my desparation to find a place to fit my rustic-barn-vintage feel i've visited all of these aside from the barn at birchwood and the inside of chimney hill (saw the property of chimney hill when i did a drive by at night coming home from barley sheaf and it was beautiful). I do plan to re-visit chimney hill and take a proper tour.
Good Luck!
@meagan1231 thank you! I have seen those, but I will let you know if I come across anything different. Who knew this type of wedding would be so hard to have around here!
I don't know if Queens NY is too far for you, but there is a farm in Queens that has site rentals and it has been used for weddings before.
hey- i was wondering if you happen to find anything. I am in the same exact boat and have looked at all the places google and everyone else has recommended. I am now resorting to looking for an old warehouse. any help would be great.
You guys should may be hire a wedding planner because they would know of places that you dont. we recently hired elite(b)events and she specializes in elegant unique weddings on a budget. so far she is great to work with, has great reviews, very knowledgeable, very professional, and the best part is she specializes in budget weddings! check her out she may be able to help you.
Hope this helps.
Congrats and good luck!
Have you tried Bucks Co, PA? I don't know a venue in particular, but try around Solebury/New Hope/Doylestown. Sorry I can't be more helpful!
Prallsville Mill in Stockton (near Wolverton Inn)
Brillmansrentalbarn.com/prallsville
Cant believe I didn't thinkif this before- I grew up around here and I always remember thinking if I ever got married, I'd want it tobe here! On the beautiful Delaware River!
Sorry I'm making multiple comments, I'm on my iPad and switching back and forth is a pain.
Good luck!

Hi! I'm newly engaged (Christmas!) and my fiance and I would like to have our reception in a big beautiful rustic barn with exposed beams and high ceilings. I have seen very few in the tri-state area and am starting to get worried we'll have to change our theme, which would probably not be something we'd want to do... Anyone know something that's not on the first 15 pages of Google? :) We'd go within a 2 hr radius of NJ, give or take (he's from South NJ, I'm from North). My favorite favorite place so far was http://www.friedmanfarms.com/index.html but they don't have anything until summer 2013. Also, we plan to have around 175 people attending and hope to bring our own caterer as we have a friend who will give us a discount but obviously beggars can't be choosers. HELP! We can't set a date until we have a place!
