I REALLY wanted to get married there - it was my number 1 choice. It was out of our budget, so we went with a different venue...but if there would have been any way to make it work, we would have booked with them.
So incredibly sad. I hope all the people who were set to get married there are able to figure out an alternative!
I was so sorry to hear about Barr Mansion's ballroom burning. The people there are wonderful, and we had such a perfect wedding experience there in February! I have no doubt that the will rebuild soon, and do right by all of the brides with upcoming weddings. Check out this post by photographer Eric Hegwer about how the Barr Mansion Staff has already made plans with the brides getting married this weekend, and the historic Mansion is undamaged http://www.erichegwer.com/wedding-stuff/austin-weddings/barr-mansion-fire

We are getting married there in September. I am so sad that this happened. The whole staff is so wonderful and I know this is devastating for them. We contacted them this morning and were told that they are rebuilding as fast as possible, so I am hoping the rebuild will be done by our wedding. If not, I know they will have a beautiful tent set up. I have faith in the Barr Mansion's amazing staff- they will make it work.
Now I need a glass of wine...
I was so sad to hear about this! I truly hope the owners are able to rebuild and continue their livelihood. It's especially sad because the barn was built out of super-old timbers from a barn in New York built in the 1800s.
What2bee, I'm getting married at the Barr Mansion June 2011. From what I've heard from the owner (via media interviews), they are hoping to rebuild in 4 months. They already had people out to begin cleaning today (the day after the fire), so I have faith they'll be able to get things done quickly. It's an awful thing to have happened, but I'd encourage you to still consider them - their staff are total pros and everyone has raved about their experience with them.
Hope that helps...at least a little. :)
Here's a video of the Sunday wedding at Barr Mansion from the local news. As a personal friend of the the owners and their families, its no surprise at all that the McAfees have come up with such a fantastic "Plan B".
Their tent is better than most "plan a"s! :)
freemyerbride---the link didn't post to the video. can you post it again?

Barr Mansion's ballroom apparently was struck by lightning last night and burned to the ground. I'm so bummed out, this is one of the venue's we were looking at... the boy woke me up to tell me this morning.
Are any of you ladies working with them? I know Miss Mouse had her wedding there, and it was so beautiful. Apparently there are three weddings there this weekend, they are trying to find other venue's to accommodate the couples if you know of anything please contact them.
