I used Alvin Shen and he did an AWESOME job for our wedding. Like you, most of my family was overseas so I needed to get a video of our wedding done. In retrospect, I regret not having him film our reception. I found him on Yelp and highly recommend him! :)
I'm using Lightbulb Videography for my wedding. You should check out their past work online! They are based in the southbay, but work all over.

For what you're looking for, you will likely end up paying $4k or more (depending on the package you chose of course..i imagine for a 2 day event, you are looking at paying a pretty good amount). I looked around and for a 10+ hour day, we found that most of the quotes (with the same day edit) came in to $4k (we're in socal). We ended up going with a group of guys who wanted to market to weddings, so we got a great deal that way...and they're willing to come the day before to film the preparations too without charging us for it.
1500 is usually the lowest a company will go, and many in the area don't go below 2k
Mine is below 2k because I chose an amateur.
There are a lot of EXCELLENT packages out there for 4-6k.
I went with Graham from Final Frame Studio (www.finalframe.com) and he did a WONDERFUL job. I purchased the 12-hour day + raw footage + Same-Day-Edit and it was all under $2K. Oh yeah... my wedding was a 2 day affair and he charged by the hour for our tea ceremony. His prices have increased since we booked him, but still affordable.
Here was our same day edit. http://vimeo.com/25533394

Hi Bees!
I know depending on many variables, the cost of videographer varies greatly. so far the type of videography I liked I received quotes from 3500 to 10,000!! so I wanted to ask you Bees who's hired a videographer how much it cost you? were you happy with it? and if you can PLEASE share your beaaautiful videos with us I would really really greatly appreciate it.
FYI, I will be getting married in northern california - mountain view/ palo alto/ san francisco area!

detail:
the reason I'm looking for a great videographer is because most of my extended family are in Korea and will NOT be coming to my wedding. I wish to find a videographer who will do an excellent job of making a wonderful cinematic film that captures the essence of the day AND enough details to make the people who didn't get to come to my wedding feel involved!
I will be doing korean wedding (Paebaek) AND chinese tea ceremony (Preferably a day before the wedding!!) in addition to the traditional church wedding. and those 2 asian ceremonies will be done with just our families and few very close friends, so I hope to be able to show a clip of it during the reception.
so the qualities that i'd be looking for in my videography package is: at least 2 days of coverage, some clip (i guess same day edits?) to show during reception, and a full cinematic film for later. with at least 3 copies of DVD's.
