We're having our wedding at Holy Cross Church (Santa Cruz), and reception at the Sesnon House (Aptos). When we were venue hunting I absolutely fell in love with Kennolyn, but it was too expensive, and we didn't think we'd be able to meet the Saturday minimum (125 people).

If East Bay works for you, I recommend the Brazil Room in Tilden Park (Berkeley Hills). It is really pretty, very reasonable, and you have plenty of time to book it. It does tend to book up quickly, but if you book it in early 2010 then there is a good chance your date will be available.
A friend had her wedding at Valley Presbyterian Church in Portola Valley (near Palo Alto) and her reception at The Historic Del Monte in Sunnyvale. The church has an amazing view, see attached picture. The Historic Del Monte is gorgeous too. I beleive you can have your wedding their also but I am not sure.
My SIL is getting married at Fortino Winery in Gilroy.
Hihi,
Check out Herecomestheguide.com It has a ton of venue sites to look at - and in all the areas of the bay.
Let us know some details to we can better help you - church or no church? ceremony and reception at the same place ideally or doesn't matter? where in the bay area are u concentrating on?
If you like wineries, the ones in Livermore/pleasanton have been awesome - especially Casa Real Winery which can fit ~500 people. It's beautiful and they have their sh*t together :)
I've been to a wedding at The Brazilian Room -- really nice, but you have to use their list of caterers.
Wedgewood Wedding & Banquet center does all-inclusive weddings in different parts of the bay area.
There are so many cool options here that I can't wait to get engaged so I can figure something fun out. lol...
Also, lots of restaurants would do a reasonable (using that term loosely... lol) wedding reception (RNM, Foreign Cinema, Poleng Lounge to name a few). There are quite a few art galleries and loft spaces that do private events.
I would check out Yelp for some suggestions as lot of the more unique things are not on the wedding related websites.
Ideally we'd like the wedding and reception at the same location. Also, looking for a place that allows for outside wedding ceremony, but an option to have the ceremony inside (away from the reception area though). I am hoping to keep the list down to 100, but I'm afraid my mom will increase that to over 200 people inviting all of her friends, clients and all of our relatives. Let's hope not SINCE I'M PAYING FOR THIS.
Some of the ideas above or wonderful. A winery or vineyard would be fabulous. We're open to the entire Bay Area.
The pictures of the Corinthian Event Center look fabulous. Thank you!
I am from MN but i recently attended a wedding at Wente Vineyards, although it's clearly outside of the bay area, it was beautiful, they had an outside ceremony and dinner was also outside, it then began to rain shortly after dinner so all staff were quick at getting everything inside to continue the BEAUTIFUL reception.
They had us stay at a great hilton hotel in livermore and provided transportation for their 100 guests to the wedding and back!! I would DEFINITLEY reccommend it!
@AshCo - If Wente Vineyards is in Livermore, it is still considered the Bay Area. It's Alameda county, I believe and that makes it still in the Bay Area. It's the East Bay Area. I'll have to check it out. Thanks. .
ha, sure :-) Like i said i'm from Minnesota! But it definitely was a great place for a wedding, and seemed to have a lot of what youwanted with an outdoor ceremony with the option to move indoors! It was beautiful, i should post some photos!
the palm event center or th Casa Real at the mitchell katz winery in livermore wine valley ...
if you're having a fairly small wedding. Wente's Murrietta's well is GORGEOUS! the FI and i would love to get married there..unfortunately we're looking at a guest list of 400..
@connoCat: we are getting married at the Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery with a guest list of 400. So far, they have been more than accommodating, and I couldn't be happier :)
We will be having it at Heather Farm Garden in Walnut Creek =)
Brazilian Room would be nice - lots of trees.
Scotts Seafood in Jack London square is nice and on the water.
Wedgewood has good prices but Gilroy is WAY nicer than San Ramon (all-inclusive)
Freedom Hall is good deal but not so unique (7,000-10,000 all-inclusive)
Fortino's Winery in Gilroy is where I'm getting married. We're having around 150 guests and it's about 9,000. It's outside on the "Redwood Terrace" and they are awesome there. I can arrive at 10am and we have the place til 10pm (6 hour of "event" time though, other hours for set up and bridal suite).
@ Sweetkate, when is your SIL getting married at Fortino? Our date there is 8/21.
We were married at Saint Dominics Catholic Church in San Francisco. The reception was at The Argonaut Hotel in Fishermans Warf San Francisco. Both were beautiful!
We're having our ceremony in Hotel Shattuck in Berkeley then walk to the GAIA Arts for our reception. They do outside catering.
We are getting married at Scott's in Walnut Creek. It's a great location because the Scott's in WC has a garden area so we are having our ceremony outdoors and receptions indoors in Scott's Garden Room--indoors but feels outdoors because of the floor to ceiling windows that face the garden area. Super affordable too!
Here are my suggestions (reasonable prices and looks good):
-- Canyon View Golf Club San Ramon - nice ballroom, by golf club, on the cheaper side (under $100/person with food and alcohol). The reason you can get it under $100 is b/c they let you bring your own alcohol, and just hire their bartender. great deal, too bad it's too far for me.
-- Sheraton Palo Alto - the catering manager will work with you on your budget to keep it under $100/person, but that does not include alcohol.
Good luck!
My friend got married at the San Francisco Zoo, both ceremony and reception. It was really cool! The ceremony was outside with animals nearby but seemed very private and pretty. The reception room is kind of like a large stone cottage-type room. Really naturally pretty and medium sized. There is also an outdoor patio area where she did her cocktail hour. I also think it was pretty reasonable. She was trying to do the whole wedding for $15k.
We're getting married at the Campbell Hall and Garden in Sausalito. There's a partial view of the ocean and a nice garden. It only costs $1,700 for the reception hall including chairs, tables, renovated kitchen, stage, etc.

We had our wedding a the Dublin Ranch Gold Club we had about 130 guest. They are flexible as well.
We are having our Wedding and Reception at the Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay. The views over the ocean are breath-taking. We were blown away with their level of service and the surrounding scenery. They do intimate weddings of 20-30, up to grand evens of 400 people. You won't be disappointed. It does come with a fairly hefty price tag, but to save money, you could get married off-season or on a week day. Or if you keep it under 80 people you can use their smaller banquet rooms. Good luck with the planning!!

Hello fellow Bay Area Bees! How are all of you? I'm somewhat new to the Hive, but was born and raised in the Bay Area. I lived in SoCal for about 12 years (a girl has to get an education) and moved back to the Bay Area (where I left my heart) about 3 years ago. In any event, I'm not "officially" engaged, but we're secretly planning our September 2011 wedding. We're thinking of a destination wedding; however, today my mom suggested something local in order for all our family to attend. Well, all my family. (FYI... my wedding is not a secret from my mom... I can't keep any from her). So, since I'm not really sure where to start (besides The Knot, Wedding Channel and Get Married.com), I was hoping my fellow Bay Area Bees had some ideas for me. I would like a venue that offers outside ceremony with the option of inside if the weather does not permit an outside ceremony. Would love something with lots of trees and near the water would be great. Any ideas?
