Does anyone know how much lighting costs in the Bay Area?  Do you have any vendor recommendations?

I'm trying to budget for lighting and don't know how much I should set aside.

    Thanks!

And draping too, please! :)  I checked out my venue tonight and saw them use draping!  It was beautiful...I wanted to cry as I walked into the ceremony room.  Now, if only I knew the cost.

    Thanks, bees :)

Uplights aren't that expensive..its a few hundred dollars. I suggest you to check with your DJ if he/she provides that service.

Pipe & Drape costs depends on how big the room is. I just got a quote for $1800 from a vendor just for draping 3 sides of a ballroom, and this doesn't include the set-up costs (an addt'l $300).

I'd highly recommend Fantasy Sound & Lighting--they are based in Livermore but travel all over!  The owner Kevin is great!

Lighting all depends on what you want. We are doing uplights in our venue (Museun of COntemporary Art San Diego), but there's a ton of columns/architectural features to light, so it is getting up there - it cost something like $20 a light, but with the amount we need it is adding up). We are also doing pin spots on the centerpieces and cake, down lights on the buffet, and a patterned light on the dance floor. It's about $1100 with labor/service fee/all rentals/setup etc (San Fran wil likey be a little more expensive than San Diego but not outrageously so)

@tofuchic: Oooooo....I've heard and seen good things about Enhanced Lighting.  Do they do package lighting and draping?

Thanks again everyone.  This is real helpful.

    Popular Bay Area lighting are:

Got Light, Enhanced Lighting, and Elle Music and Lighting.  All do draping and lighting

I've gotten quotes that range from $1600 for some uplighting, pin lights, and AV for an ipod hookup up to as much as $6000 for all that plus some draping.  If anyone has suggestions about how to minimize these costs, or has a referral for an affordable and reputable lighting person, then please do spill the beans.  :-)

One way is to get your DJ to provide uplight or DIY your uplights. I purchased 20 uplights. Cost was around $230 for 10.

We're using IMPACT, current estimated charge for lighting (including patterns, not just uplights) for ballroom is $2000-$2500, including a customized gobo.
