Hi bees,
I am compiling a list of reputable companies to contact in the bay area since I'm also looking for a lighting company myself. How i distinguish 'crappy lighting' is those people who try to sell me their lighting service but their putting just "beams" of uplights and creates no effect or ambiance for the room. For spending $1000 or up for "beams", i say no thank you. i rather pay a few hundred more to get the full effect.
Here are some reputable lighting companies I have seen:
www.got-light.com
www.enhancedlighting.com
www.nextarts.org
www.ImpactSF.com
Oh, also, stay away from hotel trying to sell you their "AV" department who puts up lighting, they are horrible, those hotel department pretty much does conference audio visual setup, not lights for weddings! they are expensive and will give you beams of light. unless you are going for the sci-fi look, i suggest you do your homework. DJs will try to sell you their lighting service as well-- they are not designers and will only have a few lights to put up. it'll be a waste of your money if the lighting is not done correctly
Please share if you have more vendors to add. thanks
