You know I went to like 10 stores in the Bay area and I didn't see a single tea length dress. I didn't ask for one specifically, but I figured I would see at least one. Bay Area Bridal and Trudy's Brides both have a very large selection, and both of those places wouldn't let me look around so they could be hiding some in them somewhere.
Elegant Lace Bridal in San Jose used to have at least 5-6. You could call them and ask. Ask for Maria! I used to work with her and she is an awesome bridal consultant!!!
Thanks, guys!
@arenyth: I went to Bay Area Bridal a few months ago and while they had some, my friend had a very frustrating experience there (her saleswoman basically ignored that she only wanted dresses with straps so her appointment was a waste of time) so I'm not anxious to go back. I will definitely check out Trudy's though.
@maisymay: Thank you for the recommendation!
I saw several the Priscilla of Boston salon in downtown SF last year. And depending on how fancy you want it to be, you might check out the bridesmaid options (available in white) at Suri and Bella Bridesmaid.
I bought my tealength Justin Alexander dress from Paris Connection Bridal in SF
They only had 1 tea-length, I think... I didn't look for other tea length dresses since i fell in love w/ the magazine pix.
I know you asked for Bay Area stores but I'm having my dress custom made by Dolly Thike of Dolly Couture who is based in So. Cal. She specializes in tea length 1950's style dresses. She finally has a storefront in Tarzana on Ventura Blvd. Here is her website address:
You can purchase a gown off the rack or custom. If you want to see more pictures of her dresses on real brides, friend her on Facebook and like her store (she has 2 pages) and then you can see TONS of pictures her brides have posted.
I hope this helps you.

Priscilla of Boston in SF was my worst shopping experience of my life. They treated me like a beggar because I was looking at samples due to my time crunch. Their short dresses are, indeed, super cute if you can deal with the snotty atmosphere, worked-over samples, and inattentive staff.
One of my best shopping experiences happened to have a ton of shorter dresses. The wedding party in Berkeley has TONS of Siri and Lynn Lugo samples that you can try as well as Nicole Miller and Waters gowns. They mostly carry natural fibers (which are mostly silk), made in the Bay Area gowns. Most of the bridesmaid styles can be more heavily lined and made in white for bridal gowns. Their bridal gowns were simple and lovely. Most of their dresses were of a much higher quality than the factory made stuff I saw in other places, yet their price point is mostly $1000 or less. And, if you happen to fit their samples, which seemed to run the gamut from 4-12 since they get a lot of models samples as their try-on dresses, you can get an amazing but not to froo-froo dress for a song.
@Ninjapoodle: Thanks. I think that's actually my back up plan if I don't see anything within the next month or so. One of my bridesmaids lives in the LA area and said she would go with me to their showroom... I like their designs but I would have to see about reducing the crinoline since I can't handle that much pouf.
@Melini: Oh, no... I have an appointment there for Saturday. I have enough time that I won't need samples, but I am definitely hoping to stay near the low end of their price range... I'm sorry you had a bad experience there... and am crossing my fingers that I have a better one. If not, though, I will definitely check out the places you recommended. Thanks!
@Entangled: You should have not problem staying towards the bottom of the PoB price range b/c the short dresses are nearly always a lot less than similar long ones. If you haven't looked at preownedweddingdresses.com yet, it might help you get a sense of prices before your appt.. The original prices are listed when you click on the listings, and you can quickly filter the gazzillion dresses to only show you the short ones. There are a view PoB short dresses on there right now that I totally love. I hope they treat you better than they treated me. Maybe they don't commission on sample sales?
@Melini: Yeah I don't know if it's a commission issue or maybe they just weren't ready to sell some of the samples you were looking at?? I will have to give them the benefit of the doubt otherwise I am going to start dreading my appointment, but if they are snooty I know who to complain to. ;)
They're actually pretty good about listing price ranges on their website... it looked like most of the short dresses were in the under 2k range, and a couple with really intricate detailing were significantly more expensive.
Good luck! I certainly don't want to poison the water for your fun shopping day. I hope you find just what you want for a price you can live with.

OK, it's time to get back to the dress search, after my last trip (in 100 degree humid east coast heat) scared me off of dress shopping for a couple of months.
I'm very tempted by the idea of a tea length wedding dress, but am not set on that choice. Does anyone know any wedding dress shops that carry a fairly decent selection (at least a few options) of shorter weddding dress styles?
I live in the silicon valley area, but it's not a big deal to drive to San Francisco/San Jose/Peninsula/East Bay.
