A few of my friends got married in the Bay Area and I remember one of them mentioning the presidio in SF when they were looking for sites.  So you may want to check that out.  Also, I went to a wedding at a place called Heather Farms Garden.  Or was it Garden at Heather Farms?  The ceremony site was outdoors and it was more of a garden than a farm.  There was a gazebo.  The wedding was during the winter so it seemed bare, I’m not sure if the flowers will bloom by May.  I’m not sure how many guests you’re planning to have but the reception area would probably only fit about 100 people, I would say.

Half Moon Bay has some extremely beautiful overlooks with gorgeous trees.  Rental of the park is really inexpensive as well.

@apearson:  Have you tried VRBO? Some vacation houses allow weddings. I saved money doing this, but not quite as much as I had originally hoped due to how much equipment I needed to rent.

I second Half Moon Bay, my Mother-In-Law was married there a couple years ago and it was simple but gorgeous. The beaches have flowers and grass and trees, and in the background was the ocean. Lovely. Overcast and cold even in July though. The pictures were outstanding.

I don’t know how you feel about parks, but there are some beautiful ones around here.

A while ago, we attended a wedding at the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden. It’s open to the public (free), but non-wedding attendees were very respectful and kept their distance. I don’t know if the entire park could be rented.
