    warning, lost post!

We've been engaged for a few weeks and I have been on a crazy mission to find a bay area venue (perferably silicon valley - can't do SF) that will let me bring my own caterer & alcohol in for a Saturday wedding. Let me tell you, it has NOT been easy.

There's an issue with each place we've talk to be it capacity, the alcohol, limits on which days they allow outside caterers and more. Ugh. I've used herecomestheguide.com and asked around but I'm started to feel defeated.

I've contacted about 26 different venues, community halls, parks, hotels. Below is a list off the top of my head of the ones we've talked to.

Rosewater HallNapredak HallThe Arc/Starlite HallVilla RegusaSan Jose RotundaHyattFairmontSt. Claire HotelQuinlan Community CenterMondrian banquet HallPoint Marina VistaFreedom Hall & GardensMexican Heritage CenterOrchard Pavilion at the Sunnyvale Community CenterSan Jose Scottish Rite CenterDiscovery ParkCasa Real

Here is what we're looking for...please let me know if you know a place!Capacity: 300-350 This has been a big thing :(Alcohol : BYOCatering: BYOLocation: From SJ to Palo Alto or even to Livermore/Pleasanton

    Thank you!!

Have you tried any museums or zoos or botanical gardens? I am not from your area, just offering it up as a suggestion.

You should stop looking at hotels if you want to bring in your own alcohol. It's usually against state law for any place with a liquor license to allow you to do this.

    1) Some places have a preferred list, but you can bring your own caterer for a buyout fee.

    2) Any place is going to make your caterer prove they have a license for OFF-PREM catering, so if your caterer is a normal restaurant, or Aunt Sue, that's not going to work. Also, your caterer will have to have proof of liability insurance and workers comp insurance.

    3) Even if the venue allows you to BYOB, the caterer might not. And either way, you're going to have to have licensed and insured bartenders. Alcohol liability insurance is a BIG deal.

    3) Try Dunsmuir Hellman Estate (most people would be able to be indoors) or the Oakland Museum (all outdoors). The USS Hornet (all indoors). Shannon Community Center in Dublin.

I know you said that you can't do SF, but you really should see The Golden Gate Club in the Presidio (people would be in three separate rooms). You get the entire building, and it's pretty great. There's even some parking there. So it's not the normal SF event drama. ;)

    Good luck!

Hi! You might want to post this to the local boards too.

I don't know if you're open to Santa Cruz, but we're having our reception at such a place--a parish hall/event center that does not have an in-house catering service. The caterer we're going with provides bartending services but not alcohol, so we're getting that separately. It allows for up to 300 people. Here's the link: http://www.holycrosssantacruz.com/parish_hall.html

What you might want to do is contact some good caterers and ask them if they know of any facilities that fit the bill. Checkers Catering, based in Livermore, seems to be really experienced and will probably be helpful. Their prices and food were great, and the only reason we didn't go with them is because we're worried about Highway 17 traffic.

There are art galleries that obviously don't have their own caterers. How about calling a caterer and asking them where they have worked before?

@ arizonabride - I've looked in gardens (which are usually too small for our huge guestlist) and art musuems (which are eeeeek out of our budget) thank you, I will keep looking around!

@ KarenZ - good advice & suggestions, thanks!

@ glowawber - I'm new here, not sure how to post to the local boards :( I'll look into the hall you mentioned....17 scares me a bit too!

@ cheerful - I talked to a few art galleries, I think the issue with most of them is the space.  They can't accomodate our number of guests. When they can, everyone needs to be split up somehow. I'll keep looking!
