Sorry! I accidentally hit enter before I could finish filling out the options! It's fixed! :)
I would say Pulled pork and Pulled chicken/Smoked chicken would be the best choices I think we have almost the same choices but we get 3 for just a few dollars more and are also adding the beef brisket!
@MsPanda: We are going through City BBQ and it is $4 more dollars per person for another option, if I have money left in the budget we will do 3 :)
I think chicken is good because it's one of the more universally liked meats. After that, I'd pick something fun to contrast it like sausage. I'd avoid brisket, mostly because when it gets messed up, it is not good. (But delicious when cooked properly!)
@GroovyHippieChick: I thought about that but I am having a very small wedding & recpetion and I know everyone personally and there are no vegetarians.
@GroovyHippieChick: Thank you :) I'm so excited about all the positive responses! My fiance and I are such a laid back couple this is perfect for us!
I REALLY wanted to have this type of reception, but my mom said NO! BOOOO! Looking at having a barbeque rehearsal dinner instead.
@hecallsmelove: My mom said no too but she also said that she hates everything about my wedding so I'm doing what I want :) The joys of paying for everything out of your own pocket!
Mmm, pulled pork. I'd say pulled pork and sausage or brisket. But like a PP said, if it's not done properly, brisket can be bad, so I wouldn't choose that unless you were confident in the chef.
@Mrs Sarah McK: I have never had the brisket but I have never heard anything but good things about the restaurant's brisket!
I think I drooled a little when I saw "pulled pork"....and to be honest, I didn't even need to read the rest. It is our favourite meal EVER!
I'm a vegetarian, so I'd love to see some BBQ tempeh!
@brenda.m.fields: We talked about a vegetarian option but we are having a small ceremony and reception and no one we know is a vegetarian so I'm afraid it would go untouched! But thank you :)
@Lucille_628: As long as you're sure. I've had non-vegetarians choose the vegetarian entre for my reception and was surprised. I thought it would only be me and my vegan brother.
My fiancé and I love BBQ too! It was such an easy choice for us! I have never tried anything but the pulled pork so I'm excited to try all the other choices!
@brenda.m.fields: I'm sure there are no vegetarians and unfortunately the caterer does not have a vegetarian option so I would have to go through another caterer to get a vegetarian meal.
@Lucille_628: Only pulled pork? You are missing out. I don't eat the stuff anymore, but some good brisket or turkey is AMAZING! Pulled pork was my least favorite BBQ meat.
@brenda.m.fields: I'm very picky, which is why I came to the boards to see what the majority favorites were :) God bless my fiancé, he makes two meals almost every night because I am so picky!
We are doing the same, having BBQ! Though we have 3 choices...we are having pulled chicken, beef brisket and then ribs (the ribs were a little more, but FI had to have it lol). I would say definitely include chicken as one of your choices.
@Verita: Oooh! I'm jealous! I wish I could afford the rib option, I loooove baby back ribs! I'm sure it will make for some adorable pictures on the day of!
Keep voting ladies! I see the caterer tomorrow! :)
Majority of the time I eat smoked chicken when I go to a BBQ place but pulled pork is definitely first place in my book.
We are having a BBQ reception ,too!! We will have pork, chicken and briskett... but if we HAD to choose just 1, I would go with pork.... awesome choice!
Pulled pork is easy, but brisket is ah-mazing when it's done right. For a second opinion, I asked the mister and he conferred. He thinks brisket is a touch fancier than a sandwich featuring pulled pork.
@Lucille_628: Yes yes yes! Great idea! This is almost our exact menu too!
Pulled Pork
BBQ Chicken
Beef Brisket
Grilled Summer Vegetables: Zuchinni, Eggplant, Peppers/Roasted Corn (No cob)
Roasted Rosemary potatoes
Mac and Cheese
Field Green Salad
Creamy Cole slaw
Corn Bread/Rolls
Thank you for all your help ladies! I'm quite excited for the BBQ! I'm hoping that it will be a crowd pleaser! I figure if we go with the fan favorites like @painauchocolat: said I will have a sandwich and something classier too!

My fiancé and I have found the perfect venue for us but now I need to find the perfect menu! Our ceremony and reception will both take place on a 19th century farmhouse complex and I am hoping for a casual and comfortable laid back feeling. What would you think about a BBQ? I can pick 2 meats from the following options; pulled pork, beef brisket, pulled chicken, smoked chicken, smoked sausage or smoked turkey. It also comes with 2 sides, corn bread and even dessert. This will only cost me 9.25 a person! Which would meat would your prefer?
