You might be able to move your period around if you start the pill now but there is the possibility of breakthrough bleeding and things like that.  Have you been checked for endometriosis and things like that?  Painful periods are not normal and you should be checked out.

I recently started taking BC for the same reason – I was supposed to get my period the Saturday or Sunday of my wedding (my wedding being Saturday).  I also have horrible cramps so I was hoping it would help.  So far, BC has been great in the fact that I hardly get cramps.  I have not gained any weight.  I was terrified to start taking it and I gave myself anxiety and swore my heart was racing because of BC, but in the end it was totally mental.  I am going to skip the placebo pills to ensure I get my period before the wedding.  I was warned about breakthrough bleeding, but was told that usually just happens the first time you skip the placebo, so don’t wait too close to the wedding to first try it.  I had some random bleeding month one, but I am not on month 4 and have had no negative effects since month 1.

@brttnyhrrll:  microgestin. it is a generic of Junel. So far no complaints – only the benefits of no cramps and shorter/lighter periods

I would talk to your doctor asap.. that way if you do go on it .. your body has time to adjust. Everyone has different side effects. The BC im on is a saint for me .. I have had NO weight gain, no change in mood, no breakouts(im not too acne prone)… I am on Ortho Tri-Cylen and It helps with cramps and the side effects during your period, I have Endometreosis so I need to be on it our else my life would absolutely suck lol. I hope you can figure something out with your doctor. I also reccomend you read these links ( It helps explain why the different pills are different) Ultimately you and your doctor can decide.

I’m pretty sure my doctor told me it could take 6 months of taking the pill before it is “stabilized”– your period, moods, etc.

I’m also unsure of what to do. I’m on the pill but as of right now I will be getting my period the day I leave for honeymoon. I was going to skip the placebo pills but I don’t want any spotting or breakthrough bleeding over my honeymoon. I’m now thinking to skip them another month, but then I will have my period during my wedding (although it will be very light and almost done). I’m not sure which is better?!

@Frukaj:  The Placebo pill in birth control is to help the contiuation of the routine, so you don’t get off track and forget to take your pills. For most people it helps keep there daily routine of taking there pill… and obviously when your on the palcebo pill that week you will have your period.

the placebos are the pills without the hormones, so for 7 days (the days you are mentruating) you basically just take sugar pills.  if you skip them and take the pills with hormones you supposedly skip your period…i am yet to try it though
