    Hi Bees:

    Birth Control Question:

I know every woman is different but I would love to hear your experiece in regards to getting off the BCP...

SO and I are trying to figure out when to come off the pill. We really do not want me to be on my 'period' during the wedding or honeymoon. Our wedding is July 7th, and I am hoping that if I stop the pill the week before (the week of June 24th), that I would have my withdrawal bleeding that week, and then again 4 weeks later.... However, I am sure that it's possible for my hormones to go crazy and possibly have another withdrawal bleeding say...two weeks later or so....

My question is (and I have added a poll), what were your experiences like?

Thanks so much, appreciate any feedback!

When I went off I had a full period and then got another one 2 weeks later! Then it became pretty regular.

I had my withdrawal bleed almost immediately and then my next period came in 5 weeks.

i had my regular period (same time as when on BC) and then another one 4 weeks later.

when are you leaving for your honeymoon? you could always just wait and get off BC as soon as you are back. or is this a no-no?

I can give you dates!  I stopped taking the Pill on Feb 17, started my withdrawl bleed on Feb 20, had my next period on March 27 (so five weeks later).

Since then my cycles have been regular and between 27 and 32 days.

All the best for your wedding and honeymoon ;-)

I'm sort of in between.  I had my regular withdrawl bleed at the end of my final pack of pills.  Then I had a few days of no bleeding, then a few days of brown spotting.  My first real period off of the pill came on day 31 of my cycle (assuming day 1 of my last withdrawl bleed counted as day 1).

I had a "period" at the end of a pack of pills, then it was 6 weeks until my next [real, I'm thinking] period. I can't tell you how it went after that because i started another pack then.

Are you stopping at the end of a pack or in the middle?  I'm sure that would make a difference.  I went of BC (at the end of the pack) in October, and it took 5 1/2 weeks for me to get a period after the initial withdrawal bleed week.  Everyone is so different that it's hard to tell what would happen.  Before my wedding I realized that I was scheduled to have my period on my wedding day / honeymoon, so I used BC to change the week, which resulted in two separate two-week 'periods' in the months leading up to the wedding.  It finally got sorted out just in time but man was I stressed!  I never guessed anything like that would happen.  So for your situation, I guess you have two options: just go ahead with your plan and chance it, knowing that it might not work the way you wanted it to, or stay on BC for a few more weeks to be certain you won't have it for your wedding.

Are you trying to get pregnant right away or on the honeymoon? If not, then I would switch now to a monophasic birth control pill like seasonal which has a constant dose of progesterone and estrogen and take them continuously (everyday) for three months starting the month of your wedding. This should get you through the honeymoon without a bleed and its completely safe to skip a period for a three month span.

    Hope this helps

If you really don't want to have your period for your wedding or honeymoon, I'd just stay on the Pill until afterwards. I got a usual period when I stopped but I know sometimes your cycle can be wacky when going off the Pill. I know I would just be stressed it would come at the worst time!

@elchalten: definitely not a no-no.... we are taking a two week honeymoon right afterwards so we are  leaning more towards just coming off right when we get back... or towards the end of the last week of the honeymoon.... Thanks so much for the feedback!

@mwitter80: That is what I was afraid of.... stopping, having the withdrawal bleeding, and then again in two weeks.... I know at that time, your hormones can be thrown completely off so I don't think that we want to chance that.... thanks so much!

I'm not quite sure if I should vote for the 1st or 3rd option, because I didn't stop at the end of a pack.

With the BCP I was on (LoEstrin 24), I didn't even have a period most months.

I went off mid-pack (took 2 weeks of the pack), I got my period about 4 weeks after stopping.

@abbyful: thanks for sharing..... I know that everyone is different but its always good to hear the experiences from others... It's amazing how hormones "operate".... It appears that to play it safe.....to just wait until after the wedding and honeymoon... 3 weeks later wont 'kill' us... I suppose, lol!!!

@trulyblessed: My skin goes crazy when I initially go off the pill. You could be 100% different, but I'll be waiting until after the wedding to stop taking it just in case.

@trulyblessed: you're welcome! we actually started TTC this month (well vaguely..not temping or anything like that, just winging it) so I can let you know when the first AF shows. I've been off bcp twice before for short amounts of time (1-2 months each time) and both times were very normal. Could be just luck though, not sure!

I don't really get the withdrawl bleed.  My BCP was such that I just took sugar pills during my period week (ie, no hormones in them).  While on BCP, I never would take the sugar pills and would just get my period.  When we decided to go off the pill permanently, I had my normal period during my sugar pill week and never started taking the pill the following week.  I got my period like 34 days later and had some cycles of irregular periods but eventually it all went back to normal.

@winniewolf: to be honest... I am a bit confused with withdrawal bleeding myself... It appears to be a regular period for me as well.... but then again, I never stopped taking BCP before so I am not sure if I will notice a difference at that time. I know that everyone is different so maybe that is the case..... I know with my luck, I would get off the pill, have my period, and then two weeks later...SURPRISE, lol!!!!

sorrycharlie : Thanks, I would appreciate it if you would!

I just went off the pill last month.  While I didn't have withdrawal bleeding, I had insanely massive headaches for the first two weeks.  It definitely interfered with my day to day life and I just wanted to crawl in bed and sleep.  My dr said it was realted to the artificial hormone withdrawal (I was on for 7 years).  Good news now is the headaches went away, but no period yet!

When I went off BC, I had my initial period, and then didn't get my next until 84 (!) days later...so it all depends on how long you've been on BC and how your body reacts.

Today would have been my first sugar pill but I'm not taking them and am off BCP from here on out.  I'm expecting to get my "period" on Saturday....we'll see what happens.

ETA we are not TTC - I just need to get these hormones out of my body!
