My mom lives several hours away, so I’m trying to make a game-plan for when she comes and we go dress shopping (finding designers/brands of dresses I think I may like to try on so I know what stores to make appointments at).
Do you think any of these are NOT appropraite for a beach wedding? Or any you think are more appopriate than others?
I don’t want to overwhelm the setting. Also my fiance and his groomsmen will be wearing khakis with white or cream linen shirts; so I don’t want to go to fancy since they guys won’t be in tuxes.
And I don’t want to die of heat! We’re going to be in Florida in June, so I don’t want tons of fabric and layers.
My body type is 5’8″, 115 pounds, 34C-26-33.

One more, didn’t fit on my attachments above:

I think those are all too linen heavy for a FL wedding in June. You will see what I mean if/when you try them on. Most salons have DW dresses on hand that you can try on-lighter fabrics, less oompf to them. The ones you posted appear to have a lot of fabric and look satiny (minus the one on the right side with the water backdrop). I suggest calling around to some salons to see what they have for DW dresses. Good luck!!

I think the first dress is pretty, but they all seem to be awfully heavy for a beach wedding in June. I would really try to remember the weather going on right now so you can remember what it is going to be like next year. I live in Texas and I would never get married here in June. It is just TOO HOT. I don’t know if it is the fact that I am 6 months pregnant, but I would definitely be wanting to wear something light.

I have to tell you, I just got back from our DW in Aruba and I was debating about my dress choice because I didn’t think it was beach appropiate either, but I loved it! And thats all that really matters. Our GMs wore khaki’s and linen shirts, while my hubby wore a linen suit. Whatever you LOVE will be the appropiate dress! Here’s mine:
With that said I love the second dress!

jingle96, you look gorgous! And I think your dress worked fine for the beach scene. If you don’t mind me asking, were you comfortable (not too hot)?

I’m getting married on a beach in July and I definitely do not have a “beachy” dress. It’s completely opposite of what I had in mind but I just love it! It’s pretty heavy, has 3 layers and a huge train. I know it will be hot because even just having it on for 15 minutes in the bridal studio I was sweating but that’s the price of beauty I guess! The ceremony is going to be so short and besides an hour or so for pictures, our reception is inside..so..I think (hope) I will be okay! But I think you should do whatever you like, don’t think just because of the location of the wedding that your dress has to fit a certain mold. I actually have seen pictures of people who get married in ball gown type dresses on the beach and I think it looks beautiful to have the contrast.

@ abbyful: thanks for the compliment! To tell you the truth, Aruba in general is hot, I don’t think the dress made a difference. I was comfortable and to be honest if i was I didn’t notice cause I was having too much fun! And hopefully that will be the case for you too!

I love the second dress! I agree completely with Jingle that whatever dress you feel beautiful in is the dress that’s perfect for your beach wedding. Don’t go into dress shopping feeling like you can only look at “destination” weddings gowns. While different fabric can be taken into consideration because of the heat factor, definitely look at all styles. We’re having a destination wedding in Puerto Rico and I chose a fit and flare satin gown and absolutely love it..no matter where we would have chosen to have the wedding, I wouldn’t give it up.

I say try on anything and everything that appeals to you. I’m having a DW on the beach and was shocked at what I ended up with! I thought I’d get something lighter and sleeker but I fell in love with an enormous Casablanca with a catherdral train. Ask me again after the wedding if I still think that’s a good idea, but right now you could not pry me away from it!
Also, the girl who does my hair got married in a ball gown style dress on the beach in Mexico and had no problems (and she looked gorgeous). We are both hot weather girls though…hot and steamy with a breeze? Perfect!
