@otto2008:  My SO hasn’t proposed yet, but my dad proposed to my mom on the beach. He took her out there at night and when he turned on the flashlight he realized they were completely surrounded by crabs. my mom freaked and he ended up having to carry her off the beach. so just don’t do it after sundown 😉 also, make sure the ring is TIED to whatever box/holder it is in. I have heard too many horror stories about the ring falling off into the sand or water.

12-14-13 beach proposal in isla Mujeres Mexico. So successful and romantic!

Cons – he was SO nervous and wound up about getting the ring down there. My proposal was a complete surprise – no Idea a ring existed or that he planned it – so getting the ring from home to Mexico, past several connecting flights, customs and on a catamaran to the island made him a nervous wreck but for me it was PERFECT!! WHATEVER YOU DO DONT DROP THE RING IN THE SAND. Make sure it is insured before you do that.

The proposal itself was perfect. So romantic and just the perfect location. I couldn’t have asked for more! He forgot what he wanted to say and opened the box upside down lol it made it more perfect and unique in my eyes. Plus the beach is a grand place to celebrate. Good luck and I recommend it!

I got engaged on a beach in June 2012! We were walking on a beach in LBI (Jerey Shree) and he had his cousing secretly plant a message in the bottle that said “Will you marry me?” on the beach in line with our walk. His cousing was also hiding in the dunes and took a ton of pics leading up to the proposal and of the proposal. My fiance also had him set up a picnic on the beach for us with snacks and champagne plus a scrapbook he made detailing our 7 year relationship. It was perfect! Sorry if pics are huge! @otto2008: My FI planned to propose on the beach but couldn’t because of a king tide lol. So he did it on a mini jetty still perfect for us! I would have loved a proposal on the actual beach so my advice is just make sure you know what the tides are doing the day you plan to propose 🙂

My DH proposed on the beach. I had a feeling that he was going to propose because he wanted to go out of town and he is a bit of a homebody. Anyway, we decided to go onto 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach, Ca and we drove up and down looking for a beach to spend some time at. He was being suuuper picky about which beach we stopped at. We FINALLY found one! It was beautiful. We said he was going to find someone to take our picture. The guy took a couple and then DH asked him to take one more. That’s when he dropped on one knee and asked me to marry him. I nervously laughed for a solid minute and then stuck my hand out and said “of course!” We got married in the same spot 2 months later and have been married for a little over a month.

My so-called Non-Proposal to Mr TTR happened on a beach (super casual)

At the end of 2011 we had exchanged Updated Life Plans & Timelines.

I was finally ready to marry him (he was thrilled) in so much as we had dated for almost 6 Years.

I told him that my wish was that we’d be married before the end of 2012, he agreed.

Then he told me that I needed to leave the Proposal up to him… as I know that the Proposal tends to be a BIG Deal for guys… I agreed and tried to put it out of my mind, and patient as a “Waiting Bee”

For the most part I did well… I definitely didn’t bring it up or harass him about it continually (ok we might have mentioned it once or twice in passing / teasing in the time that passed)

I did get antsy as the “occasions” passed in the next few months, knowing about so-called Engagement Season and how most men like to Propose in association with something special…

It was months… lol, he kept me waiting thru Our Anniversary – His Birthday – Christmas Eve – Christmas Day – New Year’s Eve – New Year’s Day… our annual Winter Getaway – Valentines – and my Birthday.

Lol, in reality he had me waiting on thru a lot of not so big holidays / occasions as well…  Boxing Day – Robbie Burn’s Day – Mardi Gras – Lent – Sadie Hawkins Day (Leap Year) – St Patricks Day – and April Fools

As we rolled into April, I had pretty much given up.  I was certain that it was now going to happen in the Summertime when we were more prone to having family around (Long Weekends – Reunion BBQ etc)

So I was totally blown away on our Easter Getaway Vacation in Myrtle Beach when we went for an Afternoon Walk on the Beach… in front of our Hotel, on the gorgeous expanse of beach… we saw a couple of Newlyweds having their Wedding Photos taken (clearly an Elopement) and he said:

“That looks like fun”

I said, “Really?”
(somewhat confused by what he had just said… as he isn’t one to enjoy posing for photos)

He said, “Ya you should look into that for our next visit here”

With a HUGE Grin on his silly face…

And, that was it… (it was a Proposal “sans ring”)

We spent the rest of the afternoon talking about our Wedding Vision.  I was blown away by how much thought he’d given to our Wedding… he hadn’t wasted those 4+ months.  He had some very firm thoughts on what he saw us doing… beyond just getting married here in one of our Favourite Vacation Destinations (in the end we didn’t get married in MB, as we were able to wangle more time off… so we married in the Florida Keys another favourite spot for us… lol, and a heck of a lot warmer in December !!  Same vision, just a bit more FABULOUS).

After the Proposal, you can be sure I was on the Internet doing research on “How to Get Married in Myrtle Beach”, and while he was golfing the next day, I was in a Mall checking out E-Rings (amazed at how much they’ve changed in the last 30 years).

To be honest, I was a tad confused when I came home after vacation tho … not 100% sure what to tell folks.  Because, my whole life I was under the impression that one wasn’t really engaged unless there was a ring.  So things were pretty quiet on the Engagement front until their was a Ring on my finger… then we truly did celebrate !!

As for your Question about getting one’s dress dirty on the Beach.

A lot depends on whether one gets the dress wet.  Beach sand is pretty fine… and falls off / brushes off very easily.  We didn’t get our feet wet, so there was no mud on the bottom of my dress.

Infact, I’d say that my dress this time round stayed a lot cleaner than the one from my First Wedding which was a Traditional Big White Pouffy Family Wedding… that included Family Formal Pics at home – Church Ceremony – and a 6 Hour Reception with Dancing.

The hem / bottom of that dress was filthy !!  And I it also got badly stained from having more than one drink end up on it as well (thankfully NO red wine… )

Hope this helps,

FI proposed to me on a gorgeous rocky beach at sunset outside of our cottage (on the Georgian Bay) in northern Canada (Bruce Pennisula) while we were on vacation this past June. The water was literally blue/green.

My best friend was with us on vacation, and videotaped the entire thing. It was just us on the beach, not a single person in sight.  The sun was setting behind all of us which worked out perfectly. Truly was magical. The day itself was perfect weather, we went hiking to an underwater cave, and came back to a bonfire on the beach, where he brought out his guitar, sang our song (“Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls) to me, then took me down to the edge of the water and proposed. Little bit later, there was a clear sky filled with stars, and we celebrated in the hot tub that was on the beach with champagne.

I’m very casual FI knew that my favourite place on earth is a beach, and I’ve always dreamed of being proposed to on a beach.  Little did I know it would be one of prettiest places I’ve ever been to!

Some photos…

This was earlier the day, when we did the hiking, but just to give you an example of how gorgeous it was up there.

@otto2008:  Actually, not too bad and we were climing over rocks, etc for the wedding pics. My dress is now just hanging in a closet, so I don’t mind if it has a bit of sand.:)
