If you would like the GM to wear suits, Men's Warehouse has Calvin Klein Linen Suits and I'm sure Joseph A. Bank has something too. They would still be in suits, but it would be lighter material.
Personally, I put the guys in long button down shirts, ties and linen pants. The girls are wearing short, silk chiffon dresses and I am wearing a long, lace Casablanca gown.
Yeah, your wedding sounds more formal. I would still do suits, though linen is a good idea.
We are having a beach wedding in Belize and I am wearing the same dress as you! We aren't having BMs/GMs but FI will be wearing a tan suit. If I were you, I'd put them all in suits since your dress is more formal and the girls will look formal as well.
I got married on Crete last summer - it was 38 degrees. My husband wore a grey suit (beware of linen and cotton - both wrinkle quickly) You can get a summer wool suit that breathes. Our groomsmen wore grey pants, black belt, white dress shirt and matching tie. It looked really smart. We also gave the tie to my father in the law as a gift - he loved it.
All of the men in our wedding wore tan suits. We got married in October in Florida. We ended up getting them on sale at JCPenney's.
@FutureMrsJMiller13: Thank you for the suggestion! FI just checked it out and loves the fact that Men's Wearhouse is having a buy-one-get-one-free sale right now.
@AdriannaJean: Thank you for your input! I think we're going with suits.:)
@LaffyKaffy: Yay, dress twin!!! Would love to know what you're wearing with your dress (shoes, sash, jewelry, etc) since you're wearing it on a beach as well! FI is wearing a tan suit, too, and I think we're sticking to suits for the GM.
@jmmacdon: Thank you! Do you mind telling me where you guys got the summer wool suit?
@Handful: Never would have thought to check out Penney's! We'll check that out! Thank you! I just saw a picture of your DH and GM on a different thread and I love what you guys did to distinguish your DH from the others. Beautiful colors.
We got his at Bananna Republic and for the guys Mexx.
We looked at suits in the US at Macys, Men's wearhouse and Nordstorms. In canada, we looked at The Bay and Sears. All had them april ish. They usually go on sale in July.
I have posted this before but still live showing my pictures lol. We had suits in Punta Cana I loved how it turned out!

I got married in a neighbouring country (to Thailand) and it was hot but the groomsmen wore suits (honestly, I didn't ask them to- my mother did without letting me know!). Turned out to be the right thing because they looked so much better. After the ceremony, they took off their jackets which helped but I will warn you- it can be really humid over there. It's possible to sweat with just a bikini haha
@jmmacdon: That's so good to know!!! We'll definitely check the stores out next year! Thanks!!
@nycbrde2011: it's such a beautiful picture I would want to keep showing it, too!!! I love that pink and gray combo! It's very classy and romantic! :)
@redband: You didn't get married in Malaysia, did you? That's where my dad's family lives so I get very excited when I hear about that country...hahaha! Yes, it can be so humid in that part of the world but I always seem to forget that especially right now when it's so cold here in Philly! I've been to Malaysia a few times in my life...and I love the food!! Were your guests ok in the heat? I do worry about that, too.
Yes, I did;)
Europeans love the heat so they were mostly alright (I mean, they bake in the midday sun whilst locals actively avoid the sun and lounge about in air-conditioned rooms). It didn't help that my ceremony and reception were outdoors. It's usually pretty breezy on the beach in the evenings but the evening I got married, it was horribly stuffy and humid (36 degrees, humid and no wind) so we eventually got the resort to prepare some fans (which definitely helped. those things were powerful!)
I can think of 2 ways the heat affected the event:
i) it was so hot that dancing was like an aerobics class so we didn't dance much (which is fine because my husband and I don't like dancing at weddings anyway)
ii) I was dying in my dress in the evening (incidently, quite similiar to yours- a lace mermaid). Basically, was sweating like a pig. I actually did have a short reception dress which might've helped but I didn't want to change because I couldn't bear to leave...
Don't get me wrong, we had a great time and have zero regrets but as you are a bride to be, it's nice to know what you should arrange (reception in an air conditioned room or if it's outside, air mist fans or something).
@WYAtocha: My fiance will be wearing a beige linen suit with a white shirt and no tie. The groomsmen will be wearing just white shirts and beige pants
@redband: OMG! How coooool!!!! Did you get to check out Pulau Redang and Pulau Perhentian when you were there? I was there 5 years ago and LOVED it! Thank you for all the tips. I'll definitely have to keep those in mind.
@sweetchiquita12: What will you and your BMs be wearing? The only reason I am leaning toward suits is because my dress is rather formal and so are my girls' dresses even though they're chiffon.
@WYAtocha: My dress is a normal wedding dress long but not too heavy. My girls will be wearing short convertable dresses..so ours is a bit more casual. I dont see a problem with guys wearing suits at a destination wedding..i have seen it and it looks good but I just worry that they might get hot and uncomfortable in them.
@sweetchiquita12: Yeah, the heat worries me, yet we still like the formal look (so superficial...hahahaha)...We'll probably stick to suits and have them take their jackets off once the ceremony is over. I'm getting so excited!!!! :)
@WYAtocha: Just go with what you want..its your wedding lol I'm so jealous you are going to Thailand! I have always wanted to go there
@WYAtocha: we're having a beach/sailboat wedding in a few weeks. groom will be wearing dress pants and a button-down shirt and a tie. no suits or vests here.
@lanalnoco: A sailboat wedding sounds so nice!!! Can't wait to see pictures!!!!
@sweetchiquita12: Thank you for your words of encouragement. I guess I was starting to feel a little selfish...lol.
My FI will be wearing a tan linen suit and a tie. We aren't having groomsmen.
Thailand? I was married there last year. It gets super hot, with or without the suit. We opted for grey pants and vests so that it wouldn't be too torturous for our groomsmen.

@WYAtocha: I am wearing a fancy dress so my FI and groomsmen will be wearing suits. They will be light-weight, but there was NO WAY my FI was gonna wear a short sleeved shirt and shorts when I am wearing a ball gown!
@Jandr: You got married in Thailand? No way! Where did you guys get married? We're getting married in Samui. Yes, I have family in Malaysia and it gets hot there, too, so that was why I had the dilemma (wanted everyone to look dressy but felt bad making them uncomfortable)...I think we're sticking to tan linen suits now though. The wedding planner has told us they have things to steam out dresses and suits there. Thank you for sharing your pictures. I love what they did with the chairs - so cute!
@Stargaze31: That's how I felt, too. I thought, "My BMs will be in long, dressy chiffon gowns, and I'll be in a lace fit-and-flare with a chapel train. I don't want the guys to wear something casual!" but felt bad because of the heat....Anyway, we have decided to go with linen suits. We wanted everyone to look dressy...hehe.
@weddingbound: Thank you for sharing your pictures! That's the color we are going for. We are doing suits! :)
Weird question, but for beach weddings, did you guys wear shoes? For a bride it can be cute/casual for her to be barefoot, but wouldn't a guy look really weird in a suit and no shoes?
@gingerkitten: I've only ever been to one beach wedding, and the groom and groomsmen wore linen button-down shirts and linen pants. They were barefoot. But I agree that suits and bare feet would look very weird. FI and the guys will be wearing shoes. I, on the other hand, have no clue what shoes I'll be wearing!
@WYAtocha: We got married at Rayavadee in Krabi. Was absolutely incredible, can't wait to go back. You're going to have a great wedding. We spent some time in Koh Samui after the wedding, and had a great time.
We are planning to have a destination wedding in Mexico... I am loving the white shirt and tan pants look. I like the vest idea too!
he is having grey nehru suit grandad collar shirt no tie. best man and my dad is wearing normal grey suit with unbuttoned whie shirtsx

So, my entire wedding has taken a 180-degree turn. First, we were going to have a huge wedding with a million people, and my BMs were going to wear these long satin gowns in Sangria from DB and the groomsmen were going to wear black suits and Sangria ties. Then, we just couldn't deal with all the family (extended family, mind you) drama anymore, and decided on a DW in Thailand instead. I already have my dress because my wedding was supposed to happen earlier (it's the Dillion by Blue by Enzoani - a lace fit-and-flare with a chapel train) and love it, but the BMs are now wearing long chiffon dresses because satin in that heat will make them melt. The dresses still have a "dressy" look to them, so should the groomsmen still wear suits? I feel like they're going to melt in the heat if they wear suits but would not wearing suits make them look too casual next to the girls and FI who will be wearing a tan-colored suit? For those of you who had/will have a beach/summer wedding, did/will your groomsmen wear suits? Any suggestions?
