We’re doing a DW on a beach. My SIL has made a couple comments about how people won’t really be dressing formally….I don’t expect everyone to come in a 3 piece suit since ofcourse it will be hot, but I don’t want it to be casual. She’s a BM, so I’m not worried about what she’s going to be wearing, but I’m wondering if peoples perception of a beach wedding means casual….?
FI is making a wedding website. Should we have a little part that talks about attire?

@memo: I’m interested in this. I guess I have given some thought to what my guests will wear, but not very much… I’ve seen pics where all guests wear white… I don’t think I like that… Hmmmm I’m not sure! I’m thinking like summery, flowy dresses for the women, and khaki shorts/pants and button down for men….

@Love_That_Never_Ends: yeah, I agree. that kind of dress code would be good. Definitely not all white!

@memo: I’m a beach wedding photographer…trust me, we see it ALL! It REALLY depends a lot on the time of year and location. For example, in the months of June/July/August it is HOTT. In July & August especially, even late in the evening, in my area (east coast) it’s pretty darn unbearable. However, on the West Coast where temps are more consistant all year – it’s not as bad (they don’t have the humidity).
The ladies are usually in dresses – some more casual like a sundress and some dressier. The guys range from dress or khaki pants w/ a dress shirt (some short sleeve, and some long). Not a lot of ties happening. Most everyone goes barefoot. We can ALWAYS tell when people are from areas where weddings are always formal events – because they show up to the beach in suits and high heels. 😉

@memo: We go to a lot of beach weddings here. I usually ask the bride or groom how formal it is because it varies. It also depends for me on where the reception is being held. If it is at the beach park then less formal but at a hotel or club or venue then definately more formal.

@memo: We got married in St Thomas on a roof top terrace overlooking the beach.
Here is the setting
and here is a group shot so you can see what the guests wore (it was overcast the day of the wedding)

@weddingbound: wow that looks beautiful.
Looks like your guests were dressed pretty nice for it 🙂

@memo: On our invites we will be putting “Ceremony will be held on the beach. Please dress comfortably for the weather.”
I don’t really care, so I may not be the best person to ask…but that’s what we’re doing.

@memo: We had a destination wedding in Cuba the ceremony was not on the beach but in the centre square of the hotel Women wore summery dresses and the men wore comfortable khakis and dress shirts it was very casual and no one showed up in a bikini or anything although there were spectators that were watching our ceremony that were skantily clad lol Luckily they didnt end up in any of the pictures
