@manzie:  I would have thought it would make more sense to get your alterations person, or a seamstress or dressmaker, to add the straps. If you buy them seprarately they are probably going to have be altered to fit you anyway.

Surely you could just choose the fabric and beads you like and have them added. I mean my dressmaker added sleeves to my dress, and beads to the sleeves, so it should be prety easy.

Another option would be to buy a bolero and have that attached. I’ve always liked this Hayley Paige bolero – which looks like straps, but isn’t:

another bee added beaded straps, she bought hers off etsy but you canbget the trim cheaper from gloryshouse.com and just do it yourself. I got my sash and bling for my garter from them.

One thing you might be able to do is order a heap of beads from the designer? I know that was an option with my dress. Then you can get them made into straps by whoever does your alterations and they will match perfectly 🙂

I think that getting extra beads from the designer is a great idea. I’d go with that 🙂

Buy extra material for the dress, or use some extra material being trimmed down for alterations, and go to a craft store and buy beads (you should be able to find a pretty close match).  Any seamstress will make straps for you and it will better match the dress.

I ended up choosing a dress with straps, but considered ones made strapless.  I definitely wasn’t going to wear strapless and i talked to shops about this, and all of them said there was no problem adding straps

Hey there!

I’m in the same positions (and also an October 2014 wedding!)

I’ve found a ton of beautiful beaded trims that I’d convert to straps here:

Let me know what you decide!! It took me so many google searches to find these sorts of things. I’m also really curious to see where you place the straps. I have a strapless sweetheart and I don’t know which part of the dress to attach them!!
