I'm planning for my little brother to play an acoustic guitar as I walk down the aisle for the procession. My sister loves this song, as do I, and she suggested I use this song for my walk down the aisle..."In My Life" by the Beatles. Anyone think this would be a good idea or weird? I've read some people think it's a sad song and others think it's about love. I'm just not really sure exactly. Listen to this link on You Tube---the first several seconds of the video are silent, just wait, it'll start when he begins to play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqyg1jD2zQc
And here are the lyrics:
There are places I remember / All my life though some have changed / Some forever not for better / Some have gone and some remain / All these places had their moments / With lovers and friends I still can / Some are dead and some are living / In my life I've loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers / There is no one compares with you / And these memories lose their meaning / When I think of love as something new / Though I know I'll never lose affection / For people and things that went beforeI know I'll often stop and think about them / In my life I love you more
Though I know I'll never lose affection / For people and things that went before / I know I'll often stop and think about them / In my life I love you more / In my life I love you more
I think it's great!!! Would you have someone singing? If you're just doing the instrumental version, I'm sure many people won't even know what the song is!
If I had someone singing it I would just use the original Beatles version because I don't have anyone who can sing. After listening to the video again, I think I would cut it off before it got into the quicker part. I would also make sure the song is listed in the program with it's title and who it's by so hopefully people will recognize it.
it's a beautiful song and sounds amazing on acoustic guitar, but i think of it as a sad song.
I don't think its sad at all... They're talking about how there are/have been tons of things and people in their lives. Even though they love them all, "I love you more".
I would choose "Here comes the sun" personally. :)
Thats the song we chose for our wedding party dance, I love it so much its not sad at all
I think its beautiful, and i like the sentiment. You are leaving something behind for something better when you walk down the aisle... and I think that song expresses that.
i dont think it is sad at all, i think it is beautiful. we considered it for the mother/groom dance
Thanks ladies! And about mandalee's suggestion of "Here Comes the Sun"--my sister actually walked in with that song at her wedding two years ago. :)
I love the song and am actually planning to use it as well for our ceremony. I say go with it!
ITs really beautiful as the instrumental version! I love it!
Absolutely love the song. I think it is very touching and meaningful, and an instrumental version would be beautiful.
We're actually having this song played during our ceremony. We think it's very meaningful, especially since this is FI's second wedding and I was previously in a very LTR. We have pasts we're not forgetting - we're just coming together to start a new future.
Hehe, I'm having my girls walk in while "here comes the sun" is playing. Such a happy song!
I think In My Life would be lovely for a processional!
I think it's beautiful. My BMs are walking in to this (I'm pretty sure) and I'm walking in to Here, There, and Everywhere. Of course, I'm a renegade bride, and I'm playing them off CD, original versions. ;)
Wow! Thank you everyone for all the comments and the poll results---34 people?! Wow! I will have to decide on instrumental or the original version too. I love both so it's hard. I want people to hear the lyrics or maybe I could just provide them in the program? Or is that silly?
Now, the recessional when my FI and I are announced as husband and wife! Yeah! That will be another post I think....
I know you said it would be a different post, but...if you're curious....our recessional will be Got to Get You Into My Life. It's so celebratory! It starts with the trumpets and it's so fun....it sets the perfect tone for the rest of our evening, and we love it. :)
We are doing an all Beatles ceremony, played on one guitar with no vocals. Here is our set list:
Prelude: I Will - pretty, upbeat, good welcome
Processional: Here comes the sun - pretty, fun, hopefully won't make people cry.
Recessional: I want to hold your hand - haha, fitting, happy, upbeat, faster
My daughter is having a Beatles wedding also............we haven't decided on which the bridesmaids are entering to (maybe The Long and Winding Road) but she wants to enter to the traditional Cannon in D. The soloist is going to sing, Grow Old Along With Me by John Lennon and the recessional will be done to Eight Days A Week..........we're having a Beatles tribute band perform at the reception and have personalized guitar picks as favors.
That is actually the song my dad and I are going to dance to for our dance, I love it!! It can be seen in a sad way but it's also really beautiful and meaningful so make it work for you! :)
great ideas, ladies! :)
bridesmaids= instrumental version of 'across the universe'
me= instrumental 'blackbird'
recession= instrumental 'here comes the sun'
father-daughter/mother-son dance= in my life
I think "In My Life" is perfect. That is what one of my good friends walked down the aisle to also!
Honestly, (coming from a Beatles fanatic), I interpret In My Life as someone has found s/his life partner... though there are others in one's life that they might love, s/he loves this person more. It's beautiful! Maybe we should phone Paul and ask him! Just kidding :)
We used In My Life while the wedding party was walking in, when I walked in with my dad it was to Love Me Tender. We had a trio of friends playing acoustic guitar for us and I thought both came out lovely. Go for it!
Thanks for the feedback! I think sometimes I have a hard time interpretting lyrics if it's a little confusing---for me in this song the mention of death just threw me for a loop. Probably also didn't help that on the recent Academy Awards they played this song while showing the slideshow of all the actors who passed away in 2009. :o
Now I just have to decide if I do instrumental or just play the song. I think if I do instrumental I'll print the lyrics in the program :) Good idea?
Just curious what type of ceremony are you going to have?
Catholic, Christian, Jewish, Muslim or secular?
Do you need to get this song approved by anybody?
I think this song is great!!! I just used it in a slideshow I made for my sister's baby shower. It's beautiful choice.
One of my favorite songs of all time! I'd be using it for the father-daughter dance, but my sister called dibs when we were like 8 haha
thefuturemrsgibbs: I feel weird answering this because I hadn't thought of how to categroize our ceremony! HAHA Um, there will be a few Bible verses, I'm sure, but since the ceremony will be held on a patio outdoors it's not like a ceremony held in a church. We don't have to have any music approved by the officiate. He's an ordained chaplain I've known for years and the sweetest man :)
Another suggestion. I found on itunes the Vitamin String Quartet and they do lots of songs. You might look into them. I am using 5 different songs of theirs, 1 by Elton John, 1 by Coldplay, and so on. Very pretty!
we're doing beatles too for the processional/recessional! we haven't figured out details yet with the string quartet we found, but we're thinking "i will" for fi's and the bridal party entrance, "here there and everywhere" for my entrance, and then "all you need is love" for recessional
I'm getting married in September also, and I am walking in to an acoustic guitar version of a Beatle's song...except I am using "Here, There, and Everywhere". The Beatles are classic! You can't go wrong...I am also leaning towards "In My Life" for the father/daughter dance.
lovely! nice choice :) We did "all you need is love" b/c we thought it'd be fitting for us. can't go wrong with the beatles
