Lovely! I'm so glad you posted this because it fits perfectly with something I'm planning to surprise my FI with during our vows.
When I was a teenager I had the idea to write a letter to my future husband. It took a long time for me to get around to doing it, but I eventually did (it's now been 15 years since I wrote the letter). I'm planning to read it to him during the ceremony. The gist of what I wrote back then was that I have no idea who you are, but you're with me now and I love you already.
Maybe I can read this short poem on the heels of reading my letter. What is it called (I can't open the second link you posted)?
it doesnt really have a title - this goes back to the 1200's
your letter sounds amazing... i dont know if i could read something so personal out in public without being a mess
can you open these links? http://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/875661.Mawlana_Jalal_al_Din_Rumi
some more....
When I am with you, we stay up all night.
When you're not here, I can't go to sleep.
Praise God for those two insomnias!
And the difference between them
Thanks so much! Yes, these links work. It's hit or miss here in China as they censor such random websites. I was getting really peeved when I couldn't access a website that sells neckties I wanted to see for our groomsmen! WHY?!??
I'm not embarrassed by or worried about reading the letter in front of others, but I originally wrote it in French (I was living in France at the time) and I hope I can get the French version out without tripping over my words. I'll follow up with the English translation, and I supposed even if I mess up most people won't realize.
Rumi is amazing...both of my parents dabbled in Sufism back in their hippie days so I've been exposed to Rumi for a long time...I might have to include a poem of his in our wedding ceremony!
what a beautiful poem!!! and I love the idea of your letter!
we are not writing our own vows, we are just doing the standard ones...but this just reminds me how - I've always thought - if I were to write my own - how I'd include the thought of, how I knew DH was "the one"...I realized he was when I remembered that - as a young child - and I was first taught how to pray - I'd always pray to god to "watch over my future husband".
I never thought about that prayer until I met mr. junebride and knew from then on that he was the one I'd prayed about as a child.
