About how long did it take you bees to actually get engaged after looking at rings with SO?

SO told me I can start looking looking. I'm super excited but he knows I'm not a very patient person lol

about 4 mos I think.   He had it for 2 months and would carry it in his pocket whenever we went somewhere (he told me this after the fact lol)

we are old and have to do things before we forget.

About a month.....although he took me shopping for rings having already bought it, so it's a little different in my case...

I should prob add that we had a big convo about the "timeline" and that I'd like a fall wedding this year (as would SO) or I'd like my gparents 50th anniversary (July 13, 2013). To which, I explained that with venues booking a year in advance (limited supply in our area) he'd need to get on it. He said both are possiblities he could see happening.

i would say 4 months. We had done a scavenger hunt in our city called the diamond dash and the grand prize was a $20k diamond ring. I signed us up because I thought he would get the hint it would be fun! i think that sparked the thought process and about a month later we were walking through the mall and he suggested we take a look in a jewelry store - i looked and i think i tried on one ring before we left. I took that opportunity to show him some styles i liked online - that was probably sometime in april and then he proposed in July. i think he needed those couple months to gather the money.

@jpalm13:  I have a really good friend who is in the same position. They are just now looking at venues for an october wedding this year but he hasn't proposed yet. I think they have looked at rings and actually picked one out but he is just saving for it at this point and will have it before their wedding. he keeps saying spring.

@totheislnds:  Hahaha nice hint! I tend to go the blunt route. I started the Mr Bee's pact but we've actually had very healthy conversation after a couple weeks of it. He was talking about getting his braces off and finding a new job (and that it might not happen for another year). I pulled the timeout because he said those were his two "ducks" to line up before proposing and I think he realized that if he keeps on his timeline without thinking about mine- he'll either have no woman or no children until he's 40. Laying it all out there has so far seemed to work!

I know that he doesn't need to save and he's actually talking about the cost. To me, it seems like he's reallllllly making the moves and I have been in such a better mood since we talked!! Now to get him in a jewelry store so he'll stop arguing with me about diamond cuts and how they look on my finger lol

Six months. We looked in the summer and he proposed at Christmas. He waited until I was traveling a lot for work in the fall so he could order andp ick it up while I would be away, and chose Christmas as a special holiday.

It could have been a lot sooner but my FI and I have very particular tastes and didn't want to drop a penny on just any ring for the sake of just getting engaged ASAP. Long story short: about 10 months. :) But we were picky, ran into bad luck with jewelers, couldn't find anyone who offered what we wanted at the price point we wanted.

But, your guy could walk into a jeweler's shop and immediately see "the one" and pop the question the next day. But I was elbow deep in our shopping and let me tell you, it can get super complicated and difficult, so don't panic if it takes a little longer. You have any ideas of what you'd like?

We started looking around April, just at chain jewelers.  In July, we went to stores and started trying on settings, researching diamonds and the 4c's, and getting really serious about our price point.  He bought it at the end of July (it took 2 weeks to come in) and we were engaged mid-August.

We had been looking for about a year- but only seriously looking for about 4 months out of that year. 3 weeks after we found rings I liked, he went and bought one, and waited a month and a week before he proposed (on christmas!). I did tons of research online, and he did his own research too so sometimes it was constant "online" shopping. we even orders a stone from moissanite&co to see what it was like.

We started looking at rings in early November. And now it's nearly February and no proposal yet. I'm thinking March...

@claireos:  Yes! I would like an oval halo with a rose gold shank and a platinum top. It looks purdy on my finger lol

He's saying within the year...I'd prefer within 6 months and he says possibly....I don't understand why a man would say he wants to marry you and then turn around and not want to do that as soon as possible??? I guess I should just be happy that he won't buy a motorcycle before an engagement ring. (He started looking at them last night and I told him he was looking at the wrong expensive toy, jokingly.) He knows I would not let him live it down and promised he wouldn't buy a bike first. I'm also afraid of having resentful feelings if he does it so late that my grandparents anniversary wouldn't even be an option. I don't think I'd be able to let that go after we've had conversations about it....

We tried on styles in jewellers here and bought our ring online at the end of October 2011. Xmas is my favourite time of year so he proposed on Xmas Eve :)

We began dating in the march 2009... we started talking about marriage about a year later. We looked for the first time (to gauge prices and whatnot) in October of 2010. We looked for styles in the spring of 2011... and SERIOUSLY looked sept/october 2011. He proposed in November 2011.

Hope it goes by fast for you!

4 and half months for me. He bought the ring 3 months after I picked it out, but waited another month and half to spring the surprise on me!

Two months after we seriously started looking -- and by seriously I mean, we went out shopping together, found a ring we both loved, and he paid for it then (we were traveling out of town, so no way for him to sneak back unknown!).  He was just very adamant that we were not engaged until he actually proposed, even if he had the ring.

We had been having vague-er discussions about rings and marriage for about six months prior to that, I think.

We went ring shopping the second weekend in January and he proposed on February 4, so only about three weeks.

I can't imagine waiting much longer when I knew he was serious...I wax going nuts for three weeks and feel bad for those who wait longer once you know there's a ring in the works!

I guess I'm the only one that got her ring that day. I told FI I didn't wasn't him to propose because I felt that it was a mutual decision. So, we went to look at rings, I found one I loved and we got it right then. As he put the ring on my finger he said, so I guess this means we're engaged. Not very romantic, but so us!

SO and I started looking at rings almost 3 years ago, and we're still not engaged, so I don't have a good answer for you based on MY experience. I guess what my experience CAN do for you is show you to be cautious about your feelings at this stage and to not get too ahead of yourself.  Looking at rings doesn't automatically start an egg-timer ticking down to a particular range of time within which to expect the proposal.  Good god, my egg-timer would be the size of a house!  Luckily, I guess most girls do get a proposal within a few months of looking at the rings, but you can't necessarily put money on him being serious about buying a ring just because you looked at them. I know, I know, "but HE told ME to start looking at rings, I didn't bring it up!"  So did mine.  Not only did he say for me to look at rings, he practically begged me to go out to the jewelry stores with him.  We went to every jewelry store in the county, we looked at about every engagement ring there was to see.  I thought he was serious, too! Alas....   *sigh*  :)

We just settled on a ring after ~3 weeks of ring shopping. SO paid the entire balance of the ring up front-- and then they told him that it would be 4-5 weeks for them to make the dang thing! (not even a custom order.) So, all in all, the process of obtaining the ring will amount to about 2 months. Practically speaking, this is a short amount of time...I just get more impatient the closer it gets (especially b/c I know he will propose as soon as he has it!) :)
