The week we got engaged we stayed at the East Bay Bed and Breakfast in Jamestown, Rhode Island. We LOVED the place as well as Jamestown in general. It's very relaxing with a small town, good food, and a park with a beautiful lighthouse. It's also very close to Newport for a day trip if you'd want to do that but we found staying in town just as fun.
That place sounds lovely! Thanks for sharing mandb122, I'll deff check that place out online this weekend. We both have never been to Rhode Island.
I'm living in Philadelphia now (Just moved from NYC). So we were considering going somewhere in PA, NJ, NY, CT, MD, VA, MA... but are open to flying out as well if the B&B is really worth it. :)
I have always wanted to go to a B&B... we do have a week before we leave for out Honeymoon. Do I feel an excuse to try one coming? Yes. Yes I do!
Haha, I like your style of thinking Ms Hedgehog!!
I have been OBSESSED with B&B's ever since we went to our first one in Mexico last year. Since then we have been to 3 total in the states and LOVED THEM. I just want to try a new one this time around and something a bit more special for our Mini-Moon.
I don't know any specific B&B's but some area's in the NE to check out: The Adirondacks (NY), The Berkshires (MA), Burlington Vermont, Lake George NY.... some of my favorite places!
We are actually take a trip next weekend to a B&B on Cape Ann (MA) next weekend. I expect it to be wonderful and relaxing. We also got a special deal on a room with a fireplace!
I agree with the PP who recommended the Adirondacks...it's one of my favorite places to be, but I usually camp there or drive up for a day trip when I'm home so I don't know the B&Bs.
Any B&B that has rooms with Hot Tubs/Jacuzzi Tubs or Fireplaces is a MAJOR plus!
Hope you enjoy your B&B weekend CapeBoundBride, please feel free to share how it went after! What is the name of the place in Cape Ann your going to?
my fiance and i had the same idea! we're from montreal/toronto and we're thinking of doing a few days in NYC after our july wedding (which coincidentally is also my birthday!)...we visited NYC briefly last summer on our way to florida and didnt get to see much so we figured it would be a great time to go back! we plan to take a "real" honeymoon to a beach sometime in fall or winter! =D
Marns07 - It's our sneaky plan to get away with having two honeymoon's! haha ;-)
@April_Fools_Bride: Thank you! We are going to Seven South Street Inn. We had originally inquired about having our wedding there after seeing so many great reviews about the Inn. Unfortunately, they do not hold events there anymore, but the owner was so nice that we decided we would stay there for our weekend getaway.
Look at Virginia wine country if you want to stay East Coast -- there are a lot there. Also, if you're going to the West Coast, we stayed at one in Napa and one outside of Portland in the Willamette Valley (if you see a theme, it's that we like visiting wineries). PM me if you want where we stayed. Love B&Bs ... and the idea of two honeymoons!
More amazing suggestions! Thanks so much!! :)
B&B's are like the best of everything in one little spot. I'm addicted!
forty five days left and still no minimoon booked, lol ahhhh
We're doing our honeymoon in Southwest Virginia and staying at a b&b in Christiansburg, The Oaks Victorian. We're getting their guest house which has a private hot tub. Very nice.
Since you're flexible about location I would recommend checking out Living Social's escapes. Right now they have deals around 50% off and it's also a great way to hear about b&bs you wouldn't hear about otherwise!
If you want to go down south I suggest savannah.
They have TONS of historic B&B's. It is an uber romantic city too.
There's a B&B in North Conway, NH called the Cabernet Inn. The room we had had a private bathroom and a jacuzzi tub right in the room. Plus the owners were just lovely. We stayed there for Christmas a few years ago and truly had a great time.
It all depends on how far you want to go though. I know a great B&B in Seattle and one in Maryland on the only inhabited island in the Chesapeake Bay. We also stayed at a nice one in St. Michaels.
Can you tell Mr. Lox loves B&Bs? ;)
I second Savannah! As far as gorgeous, romantic cities go it can't be beat and the weather would be great in April. (You can also stroll the streets cocktail in hand;) There are tons of great B&Bs. I've stayed at the B&B Inn and loved it, although there are others that are more upscale and might be more of what you are looking for.
FI and I stayed at a B&B in Brattleboro, VT called 40 Putney Rd. It was a fabulous weekend. http://www.fortyputneyroad.com/ The owners used to live in Manhattan, and the wife was a chef, so the breakfasts were phenomenal. There were a lot of outdoorsy options and some excellent restaurants. It's a very artsy community too.
Another recommendation would be Asheville, NC. I'm moving there in a few weeks, and there are some beautiful B&Bs in the area and a ton to do for visitors!
I am having a HUGE B&B High now from all these great suggestions. I'm excited like a little girl right now...checking out the websites of these places!!! :)
Thank you Asdf, bluegreenjean, lox, panterapeach & delovely! You rock!
Btw, I also agree that Savannah would be a great spot for a quiet romantic get away. I'm just wondering how the weather is there in April and if the airport is close by?
I'd deff like to go to a B&B somewhere where is semi warm rather than cold. Though if the place was THAT Amazing, i'd be willing to do cold.
We live right next to an amazing B&B in Washington, DC, called the Swann House Inn - their breakfasts smell so good and I can often smell them from the street or my apartment when it's nice out and the windows are open.
It's absolutely gorgeous and in a great location for DC sightseeing, dining, and general fun. They have beautiful rooms, a pool in the warmer months, and all that. I highly suggest checking it out if you're looking for a close-by B&B in a city!
We're totally doing the B&B thing! We're staying at a place right outside San Antonio Texas
http://www.meyerbedandbreakfast.com/
4 days for under $700 in one of their suites/jacuzzi tub & larger shower... and their grounds look beautiful.
They were on the top Hill-Country B&B list I found and are only 30 min from San Antonio so a day trip to the Alamo & Riverwalk are definitely a requirement.
Def check them out... so far I'm really pleased with their customer service =)
You must, must, must try Bishop Farm B&B in Lisbon, NH. It's in the White Mountains of New Hampshire which is a beautiful location with so many wonderful things to do! My husband I are first discovered it when we went there for Valentine's weekend of 2009. It's since become our weekend get-away location and last October we got married there.
Their website is www.bishopfarm.com ...you should definitely check it out. The owner, Annie, is honestly one of the nicest people I have ever met and she runs an amazing B&B. The rooms are immaculate and perfectly decorated, the location cannot be beat, and her country breakfasts are delicious! Annie will make sure you have EVERYTHING you need to make it a perfect getaway. She's one of those people who will do whatever it takes to make you happy.
There is a cute town right down the road called Littleton and it has lots of great shops and some amazing restaurants. You should definitely go to Trip Advisor and read all of the amazing reviews guests have left. They have a 100% rating and are rated as the #1 B&B in the White Mountains and the #2 B&B in all of New Hampshire!
Here is a photo of the barn on property that I LOVE so much!
We are probably going to Gatlinburg. Here's what we are looking at:
http://www.yourcabin.com/666ShootingStarr.aspx
It is a two-story private cabin in the woods with a 52" TV, a full kitchen, two baths, jacuzzi and a hot tub on the deck overlooking the mountains. Of course my husband thinks the best part is the loft with the pool table. Go figure. This one is about $200/night, but there are cheaper (and more expensive) cabins too.
Of course, if the OP wants to stay closer to home, I would think there are similar cabins in the Poconos and in Lancaster County.
I'd check out Cape May, NJ- Annapolis, MD- Williamsburg, VA and the Hudson River Valley, NY. Great B&B's and plenty to do in each area. Plus they are all an easy drive (under 5 horus) from Lancaster.
Amnystik, I have been DYING to visit Texas for the longest. I am a HUGE fan of brisket and BBQ and I hear there is no better place for that than texas. Will be book marking your B&B!
SarahD07, LOVE LOVE that picture. That place looks adorable! You have deff sold me on how beautiful and charming that spot must be. It's all about affordable plane tickets..but that is a good place to also keep in mind for special occasions.
Neva, That place sounds amazing. Hot tub, jacuzzi , tv, cabin on the mountains?? Nice!
Mshoagie, your bee name is making me hungry girl! lol I will deff check those towns out, anything drivable from Lancaster is a plus. Thanks!
Oh YEAH.. infact if you want to make a long day trip there is a BBQ place that is the BEST... or atleast that's what they've been rated many many years =)
They are probably a 3-4 hr drive from Where the B&B is
Really though... good BBQ is all through out this place lol
@April_Fools_Bride: You could drive. It would probably take you about 6-7 hours. But since you're willing to drive as far as Massachusetts you could always just keep driving another two hours north and be in NH. Just sayin' ;)
@April_Fools_Bride: We just got back and I thought I'd post a quick update. Our trip was fantastic! We got in late Friday night and had no trouble getting into our room. The room was elegant, cozy, and most of all warm -Rockport had gone from spring to dead of winter by the time we got in. We got a cozy sleep and woke the next morning for breakfast. Which was absolutely delicious. We left quickly to see a venue, but came back and the wonderful innkeeper, Debbie, was so knowledgeable about the town and neighboring Gloucester. She gave us some other venues and places to check out. We had breakfast three mornings and each morning the meal, company, and coffee were wonderful. I'd totally recommend staying there if you head to Rockport, MA.
You girls are awesome, still looking for a place. Fiance decided that we should stay somewhat local, so nothing that is more than a 3 or 4 hour drive from Lancaster, PA. I am book marking all the AMAZING suggestions you girls had though in other states for another time.
We were going to go to some of the amazing places mentioned in DC but they are booked up already. If anyone has any more suggetions of great B&B's by PA pls let me know!! :)
(CapeBoundBride _ your trip sounds AMAZING! You lucky girl! I deff hope to make it out to rockport sometime in the next year or two!)
Okay.....so I think there is a direct flight from Philadelphia to St. Thomas, USVI. So if you can get there, the Bellavista Bed & Breakfast is AMAZING!!!!! We just spent a week there and all the other guests had been there 3+ times. PM for photos and info. I can't wait to go back.

Hey Bee's!
My Fiance & I plan on going on a long weekend "Mini-Moon" right after our April Wedding since our Europe Honeymoon plans are not happening till late in the in summer. We LOVE B&B's and think it's a romantic and sometimes cheaper alternative. We are also big foodies! Anyone planning on going to a BED & BREAKFAST for their "Mini-Moon" or Honeymoon in the States? Any suggestions of favorites?? We still have not decided if we should go to a local B&B on the East Coast or fly out for the weekend to the South or West Coast. Would love to hear from all you B&B Loving Bee's!! Please Share!
