Don't register for any. Save some $$ from your presents and get yourself a good deal at homegoods/tj/marshalls. they have very high quality sheets.
I didn't register for linens and put the word out through my parents and bridal party that I wanted Teal, brown and gold duvet sets, and any towels so long as they are 100% cotton and light colored linens so long as they were over 400 thread count. I received many gifts from people that were purchased at Home Goods, TJ Maxx and Marshalls and they saved money and I got what I wanted.
The best sheet set I have got was off of smartbargains.com...they were 800 thread count and under 100 bucks and I loooooooove them.
I registered for mine at BB&B, the set was $299 but did not include decorative pillows or anything like that. Just the comforter, dust ruffle and 2 shams.
We had the same problem... the only one I liked at all at Macy's was so expensive! So we found a good deal at BBB (love the 20% off coupons there) & bought the set we wanted ourselves. Then we just registered for extra sheets and stuff to go with it.
We bought new bedding a few years ago and so aren't registering for anything at this point (though we may change our minds as we get closer to the shower date, etc.) I am not really into high end bedding (We got all of ours at Target!) so we may just purchase something after our wedding at Target or someplace similar.
Ours was on sale for $279 last I checked... but it retailed for $329, I think.
I'm usually having a heart attack at the prices of some of the stuff on our registry, but this somehow did now bother me. It's just what the going rate is!
We just registered at Target for some things, as we're hoping most people will give us monetary gifts if they choose to give us anything (guests are paying $300 & up just to be at our wedding, so we arent expecting them to give us anything really). We registered for a really nice geometric patterned comforter set thats on clearance for $49.99 (king size) if our guests don't buy it soon I'm going to have to snatch it up myself :)
I agree with the previous posters about buying bedding/towels at stores like Home Goods/TJ Maxx/Marshalls instead of registering for them. While you may not be able to "register" there you can still ask for gift cards!! I got a gorgeous king down comforter (Ralph Lauren) from Marshalls for $80! You CANT beat that.
Overstock.com also has really good deals on bedding. I like it because they usually have reviews of everything too!
I bought ours from Macy's on Black Friday for a fraction of the original. I was able to snag a comforter, duvet/skirt/sham set, sheets/pillow cover set for less than $150. Hoorah for sales and being a winter bride!
I know, it amazes me! My FSIL and her FI registered at Macy's recently for a duvet that was $400 and the whole rest of the set.. I thought it was pretty ridiculous to register for something so expensive, but I just checked her registry today and the whole set is on sale 1/2 off and all of the bedding items have been bought by someone!
Remember, too, that some of the more expensive items may be bought by a group of people, so you still have a chance of getting them!
I loooove nice bedding! Some one already mentioned the great sales that Macy's has, so I'll throw in my two cents and add that Bloomingdales will slash prices like crazy as well. I got a $400 duvet cover for $50! Bedding is a seasonal sort of thing, so if you find something you like, just periodically check the prices in whatever store you pick, and more likely than not, it will go on sale at some point.
Mr. FF and I just bought all new bedding and we got it all at Kohl's they have great stuff and you can register there!
Ours retailed for $340, but I know my Aunts didn't pay that much b/c it was on sale and I was with her! Everything on our Macy's registery has been on sale at least once, most of the items have been on sale for most of the time. With the economy the way it is, stores are trying to get shoppers in. Register for what you want. If people can't afford it, maybe people will go in on something together or give you gift card to use it towards an item. This is the only time in your life to register for what you want, so find stuff you want and that will last for a long time!
You are right, Pottery Barn often has good sales on their bedding and it is good quality product. I used to work there, and they tend to have sale bedding because they cycle through collections pretty fast....often every 6 weeks. So you have to be careful there if you have your heart set on something and it goes away before people are shopping much on your registry. Also, if you register, you may have to keep an eye on if people have bought some pieces and not others, so you don't end up with only part of a set.
You can always get a more luxurious duvet cover and fill it with a comforter from a Kohls/Marshalls type store too to take advantage of a sale, and it doesn't matter if it matches or not.
hey all - we finally found some good bedding on !SALE! at Macy's. We just bought it and will register for sheets, pillows, mattress cover/pad, blankets, etc. Thanks for the tips!
Pottery barn is great for bedding, especially when you get it on sale. I used to get the cheaper stuff from the discount store or linens and things. It wears quickly and doesn't look good after a couple of washes. I have a pottery barn duvet for several years and it looks great! And I let my dog sleep on it as well.
I'd spend money for a decent duvet. I have one from tuesday morning. The down has shifted around even though its baffled and compressed. It's lost its warmth.
We registered for this gorgeous duvet set that at retail cost like $700. I never in my life expected to get it. I didn't.
But for Christmas, my mom found it on eBay for $300 and got it for us as a surprise. It is totally wonderful. So maybe this will happen to you too :).

Hi, all:
We're trying to find some high-quality, yet inexpensive bedding, but it's nuts trying to find it! How much are the comforters/duvets for which you guys are registering? The ones I like at Macy's are about $250! YIKES! I guess we'll hit up Home Goods (where one cannot register) and Bed Bath & Beyond. Anyway - I just want to get an idea of how much is too much for bedding. Thanks!
(maybe I should check Pottery Barn...sometimes they have surprising sales)
