Newbie here and I think I’m having dress jitters! I thought I always wanted a dress with straps (I love the Grace Kelly/Audrey Hepburn era of dresses) so I was happy to find one that I loved. But after dress shopping with a newly engaged friend the other day, I’m starting to wonder if I should go strapless.
I tried on two that really caught my eye (bad me, I shouldn’t have!) and the one I’m leaning towards is the satin strapless. I love how well it fits me compared to other dresses I’ve tried. I love its simplicity.
If I buy the dress today, the minimal alterations can be completed before my wedding next month. Or should I just keep the one I bought? My only hesitation is whether the strapless is too plain.
This is the dress I have (I love the lace back, the waist cinching effect)
This dress got me doubting my choice. The pic on the left is of a real bride the exact same size/height which is how it looks on me when the dress is properly zipped (I snuck a few snaps while the dress was falling off my body!)
Then there’s the other strapless I tried that was pretty but I wasn’t so keen on how it fit up top
Help me bees! I need to make a decision soon!

@vintagelovinbride: I would stick with what you have…it is absolutely gorgeous.

I love the first dress(the one you have)!

I do really like the second dress you posted…but then it is very similar to my dress (except mine has cap sleeves). The one you have is also beautiful, the one thing I’m not digging are the waist pleats. I’m not a fan of the third one at all.

I love the dress you have already!

I love the one you have. The strapless ones, while pretty, are not memorable, to me. The lace straps, the low back… it’s really amazing.

I think the first dress is the most special/memorable! The other 2 are pretty, but more generic looking.

I love the dress you have. Even before reading your description, it was my favorite.
I think you should stick with what you have. You have the rest of your life to wear simple, strapless dresses. Go all out!

100% the first one – I think it is more stunning then the other 2 which I think look a little boring and they don’t have that “wow” factor like 1 does.

Keep you dress! “Grace Kelly” is exactly what I was thinking when I saw that dress 🙂

They are all beautiful, but I loooooove the one you have! It’s beautiful and different. The straps are so elegant.

@vintagelovinbride: I really love the first dress on you! It gives you great shape and the back is lovely!

Here’s my theory…see what you think about this: You went shopping with a friend who is newly engaged and some of her excitement rubbed off on you. You’re getting near to your own wedding, so you’ve probably been in the planning process for a while and that big rush of newly engaged excitement has worn off a bit. So you tried on some dresses for fun and because you were feeling that exciting vibe your mind told you they were better than the one you have.
Those two strapless dresses are lovely, there’s not a thing wrong with either one of them, they look good on you and you would look gorgeous on your wedding day in either one of those. But your original dress is SPECIAL. It’s a style that might be gradually becoming more popular, but it’s not super trendy right now. It’s a style you’ve pictured yourself wearing for a long time.
It also looks FABULOUS on you! You have the shoulders and neck to pull of this style and make it look as elegant as anything Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn ever wore. If you were my daughter I would be nagging you with all my powers to get you to wear that dress. (Just kidding…my daughter actually did wear a dress with similar straps and neckline for her wedding last year…and I didn’t have to nag her.)

I think your original dress flatter you sooo much. Also, I think in the longrun you will appriciate the “classicness” of your original dress. If you feel like dressing it up you could add a sparkly belt; that would be a qucik add since your time is limited. Reguardless, they all look wonderful on you 🙂
