Hi Bees!! So, my wonderful man proposed to me last night at the place where we fell in love, and it was perfect.
I’m a personal assistant, and we spend the mornings at the dog park walking our dog and my boss’ dogs. We live in Austin, TX, and the dog park is surrounded by the city lake. The weather was impecable yesterday, 65 degrees, sun shining, and a breeze coming off of the water. I kept telling him how it was “the most perfect day”. We had planned to go to dinner that night to the best restaurant in town, he said he was jealous because I had gone there with my sister two weeks before, and he was still sitting on some birthday cash from his family that he wanted to spend, so heck, let’s go have a special dinner on a Tuesday!
I had a tiny hunch he would propse, but being that i’ve been waiting a while, I’ve learned never to get my hopes up. I really didn’t expect it. I got off of work about 4 hours early, and I told him that we could go to dinner earlier, and then go to our favorite coffee shop afterwards. The coffee shop is where we would go when we used to work together, we would close the place down talking for hours. It’s the first place we said I love you, and I always had dreamed of him proposing there. But I had suggested it, so I didn’t think he would propose! Turns out, he already had planned to go there after dinner, as plans were made days ago.
We were sitting at our usual table and he said he needed to go get a coffee refill. He was taking a while, so I posted a picture of the view to Facebook with this as the caption: “Seth and I had an impromptu date night at Uchi, then came to Mozart’s, the place we had all of our first few dates. Maybe it’s a coincidence that the weather is the best it’s been in months, or maybe it’s just fate.”
I set my phone down, and he was there next to me, and I noticed cameras flashing. My sister is a wedding photographer and he had her there to photograph it all. I UGLY CRIED big time, way more than I ever imagined. He had an amazing speech, but it was so long! I told him “hurry so we can do the thing”, but I’m so glad he said everything that he wanted to. Not that I remember half of it! I shook my head yes, he didn’t see it, so he said “Is that a yes?” I said, “Yeah!”
After everyone cheered, I realized that his family was coming up the stairs from the lower deck! I cried more and more! Then my family! SO many tears. Then his mom said “LET’s SEE THE RING!” And I realized I had never even seen it! I said, “I don’t even have it yet! Where is it?!” And he put it on my hand. My dream morganite ring with a halo. A pear cut, which is what I wanted because we are both chefs, and pear is a food, so…haha.
Pardon our puffy eyes, we both cried!
Bees, after all this waiting, I was sure that he wouldn’t be able to surprise me, and that it would be expected and I would love it, but it wouldn’t be like the movies. It was SO MUCH MORE than I could have imagined. It was a dream proposal. I can’t believe we are getting married, I am so excited to love him forever. I really am so blessed.
When my sister shares the pro pics with me, I’ll be sure to share them.
So, NOW WHAT DO I DO?!?!? Size the ring first, I’d guess? I already got a few bridal mags and painted my nails with my Etsy “Got Engaged” polish that I had been holding onto for months 🙂
