I’m going to have to seriously tighten my belt once we move into our home (we currently both live with our families). Here’s what I’m cutting down on:

-new clothes, I have a lot already

-dinners out, and especially ordering alcohol when we go out

-coffee, cutting out 1 K-cup a day will pay more than a third of our homeowner’s insurance annually.

-vacations, we just did a quick, local weekend trip this year

ETA: FI has a full time job, but I’m in school with 2 part time jobs

We both work full time (me 26, him 28) so we are simply setting aside our tax refunds and saving a little over the next year on top of it.

<br />We’re having a very low key wedding. Is it what I always dreamed of? no, but my lifestyle is not such that I even know 325 people to fill a giant beaux arts mansion ballroom. Instead we’re getting married at a lighthouse and having a small passed apps reception and a taco bar at our home for our friends.

I think the total cost is ringing in about $8k including dress and rings. So we don’t have to struggle too much for that, but FI was nagging me about taking a vacation in Jan and I had to say “I can’t really afford that with the wedding stuff and paying off my student loans. We’ll have to wait for the honeymoon.”

I have been trying to buy less clothes as I love to shop but I have so much stuff I don’t wear and have really been trying to edit myself and shop clearance more.

We’re also cutting back on gifts a little. Not a lot, but we aren’t going over the top anymore, and we’re making some gifts rather than buying things.

axia08:  We had an opportunity to go to a “free” concert – quotations b/c the tickets were free, but we’d have to spend a decent amount on gas and a hotel room and dinners.  We opted out.  There’s a hard cider fest I wanted to go to a couple weeks before our wedding but I just let it go.  The biggest heartbreak was FI went to San Francisco last week on business and I could have gone with him and visited friends while he worked, but I didn’t want to spend $500 on a flight 🙁

Oh, and we’re sacraficing a honeymoon right now to buy a house.

We are getting married in just over a month, and up until two months ago I worked a second job at a bar on weekends.  Other than that, we’ve cut out so many dinners and drinks out (don’t do that more than once a week now); no buying coffee out, we take it every morning with us; no more than one lunch out a week while at work, we make dinners that give lots of leftovers; no new clothes for the time being; canceled cable TV; carpool to work (and sold our second car, didn’t need it); and finally, no concerts from the time we got engaged (August 2013) to the wedding (October 2014).  That’s the hardest one for me…I feel like that’s the same issue you’re having with your anime cons!!

axia08:  yeah, our wedding expenses aren’t too high since my parents are helping a lot, but I have massive student loans and our bills will increase sharply soon.

My FI has said we aren’t doing any more shopping (clothes, home decor) and instead put that $ towards the wedding but lol its kind of unfair bc he never shops anyways, but then again he’s paying probably 75% to my 25% so I can’t exactly complain. 🙂

No cable or Netflix.  It’s like something out of a Dickensian nightmare, right?

I’m proud of you for making that sacrifice, it must be hard! Haha

I’m cutting down on my birthday and Xmas. In years past FI and I have SPOILED each other. It can get pretty bad. This year we gave ourselves a substantial decrease in gift budgets. We will still spoil the kids, but I’m more interested in my wedding being beautiful than things.

no dining out, no new clothing, no trips, no new scuba gear (thats the hardest sacrifice for me – i’d rather survive on KD for a year than give that up but alas), no going to the movies, so basically no fun for the next 52 weeks all in reward for ONE day lol – oh and Xmas is canceled at my house 🙁
