FutureDrAtkins:  Probably not quite the response you’re looking for – and I totally get why you’re frustrated, I would be too – but shouldn’t you have realised she wasn’t due those vaccinations?

I keep records for myself and make sure I know as the owner whose shots are due when… Sorry :/

FutureDrAtkins:  So what, you’re the first person to change their name in their system?  I feel like this is their fault.  They should keep better records.  The dog’s name didn’t change…. who’s records were they looking at when they gave your dog repeat vaccines?  I would probably take it up with the BBB and dispute credit card charges if they’re not cooperative.  Just remember most CC companies only allow you to dispute for a limited amount of time.

I would also be doing research on any effect to your dog from the extra vaccines.

I totally agree you should know what vaccines are due when… But as a vet I think they have more of an obligation to keep track, as they’re the ones actually administering them to a dog that doesn’t need them.

I’d find a new vet. I don’t know if you have recourse to get your money back, but I would not trust them to care for my pet if they can’t keep their records straight. When I call my vet I say “this is Lincoln’s mom”- and they know me.

The BBB might be going a little far, but I would definitely stop using their services. edit: If she admits she shares some of the fault, why not give you back half the money?

Did they give all these extra vaccines to the dog with lyme’s disease? :/  I hope not.

I don’t think you’ll get your money back, but I’d certainly write a review somewhere at least. If you’re not a new patient they should have known to look for a chart…

FutureDrAtkins:  I’d find a new vet.

And I have to disagree with everyone telling the OP she should know what vaccines her dogs have had. I take my cats to the vet on a regular basis and always when they’re sick, but I couldn’t tell you every single vaccine they’ve been given from the time I got them (8 weeks) until now. I trust that the vet is going to be making a notation of that in the file and will be keeping up with that info. I’d be infuriated if my cat was given an unnecessary vaccine all because someone was too lazy to look in the file.

I think it’s their fault. They should refund you, and you should find a new vet!

FutureDrAtkins:  I don’t know if I have an answer, but I can feel your pain in that I’ve had some bad vet experiences. It’s VERY frustrating because it’s our babies and our money!! I have no idea when my pets’ vaccinations are due, that’s why I rely on my vet to tell me. I agree they should’ve been smarter with the name change. My BANK couldn’t even make a name change without screwing it all up. Um, hello????

I would be pissed. I would cut off any ties with this vet, and sever any professional relationship you may have had. That vet is RUDE and NOT doing her job.  It is the responsibility of the company to keep track of their customers.  Write as many negative reviews as you feel you need, you are not overreacting, I would be livid.

Ugh I’m sorry. I’m not super in love with our vet office (love the Dr., hate the staff) so this would really push me over the edge. Dispute the charges and then review them anywhere and everywhere!

The office should be keeping better records. I wouldn’t expect a refund, although I would try. Switch vets and please write reviews EVERYWHERE. This is definitely something I would want to know before I took my pet there.
