So today was my first “official” day teaching. I have been a student teacher and taught summer school before, but my current schedule is particularly brutal. I am a special education teacher (inclusion, so I co-teach, not self-contained) so I am ALL over the building.
I co-teach in 6th grade two periods, 7th grade for two periods and 8th grade for two periods. However, this isn’t like a consistent schedule. My schedule is like this: 7th, 8th, 6th, 6th, 7th, 8th. Therefore, I’m not only on my feet all day, I’m also walking from one side of the building to the other multiple times a day. My feet are KILLING me today.
I need shoe recommendations!! I don’t even care what they look like at this point, I just want the most comfortable shoes that look halfway decent and can be worn with typical “teacher apparel.”
So what shoes do fellow teachers or people in other professions that stand all day prefer? What are your favorites?
Obviously, I make a teacher’s salary…so, that’s a factor, haha.

Im a nurse so I’m always on my feet, and I wear danskos.

I’m a nurse and I love Alegria shoes. They have a removable leather insole with arch support and a ‘rocker’ outsole. They’re so comfortable but a bit pricey. However if yo google ‘alegria shoe shop’ that website occasionally has sales for the shoes and you can get a pair for about $80.

I swear by Born. I have all sorts of feet issues (fallen arches, lots of previous fractures, etc) and they’re comfortable for 10+ hours. They’re a little on the pricey side, but well worth it since most of their designs are all leather and live pretty much forever. 🙂

Alegria and ahnu are my current favorites for work shoes. I found this blog to be helpful to find cute, comfortable shoes. http://barkingdogshoes.com/

I alternate between sitting all day, standing all day, and walking all day. I wear Merrell’s Glove line. They make some that are a ballet flat style that I wear nearly every day.

I am a SPED teacher and love Danskos. A zillion styles and theres a good handful of super cute ones. I also like Birkenstock Gizeh sandsals, they’re super cute!

I love Softspots. Unfortunately my puppies ate them so now I have been sporting cheap Merona shoes from Target!

My job requires me to walk quite a bit, and I was killing my feet. I didn’t want to wind up having to have bunion surgery or something, but the Danskos and the Merrills weren’t exactly my style. That’s when I discovered John Fluevog. *Most* of the styles are fabulously comfortable (try the Operettas family–they have Vibram soles) and if you like funky shoes, this is where it’s at! I am a huge fan…can you tell?
P.S. Fluevogs can be pricey, but if you catch the semi-annual sales you can get some killer deals.

Thank you all!! I’m currently looking up ALL of these to see which look the most comfortable and decently cute in my price range. More suggestions are totally welcome! I probably won’t order until this weekend.
@theshannondee: Woohoo yay for the SPED teachers! 🙂

I’m the type of girl who can wear 3 inch heels all day. I’m a teacher and I never switch shoes. So I’m no help.

@Rubbs: One of my co-teachers is that way. I am both in awe and in horror of you all that can do this! I absolutely cannot. If I had to wear heels for some reason, I promise you there would be some flats in my desk drawer!

I worked at a hunting store and I walked 8 miles every day (Up & down stairs, running across warehouses etc etc) and I have flat feet — Lots of pain!
I’d suggest anything from Merrell. I wore these in particular and it was a gift from the heavens.

@Rubbs: I know. I’m a teacher too, and you can pry my cute ballet flats and platform heels off my cold, dead feet. I do not believe in comfort over style. After that it’s a slippery slope to wooden apple necklaces and sweaters with cats on them.
