I work at a fantastic flower shop! Because i started working there a few years ago i changed my career so that I could do this wonderful job for the rest of my life. I have many brides come in and order flowers but there are some things that we need from our brides to be that help out a great deal!!
Many flowers are much much less expensive when they are in season, sure we can ship some in from other countries but the price is quite lower when they are in season. for example…Tulips are only a spring flower, Ive never seen them come through our shop or any other in the summer, fall, or winter.
Have a price range in mind. Dont be suprised if the thing on pinterest is waay more expensive then you thought, things like orchids, peonies (i know sad), and hydrangea are going to be up there, anywhere from 5-15 bucks a flower. EESH. like i said before, if they are in season you will get a better deal, but some flowers are harder to come by or are just more expensive to buy from a grower.
Know what colors you want, even take in a piece of cloth from a BM dress so they can match the flower color (lets say a rose) as close as they can. MOST FLORISTS DONT CARRY BLUE! This is why pinterest is a nightmare for bride and florest alike. there are a few flowers that come naturally blue like dalphinium, but roses, carnations, orchids, kinda everything else is dyed or painted. if your not okay with painted flowers that smell like spraypaint..dont do blue flowers. maybe tipped roses in blue but not full paint. smells bad, looks tacky.
Dont be worried if they ask you to pay that day you place your order or soon after, they have a lot of product and worktime going into weddings especially if they have to order something special for you.
Dont forget to have fun, this is the way for you to be creative and make your flowers match your personality! There is nothing a florist loves more then a happy bride with wonderful flowers! I hope these tips will help you Bees out! xoxo
