We are not yet TTC, but hoping to in a few months. I called daycare centers today to get pricing so that we can evaluate if we are financially ready for a baby. I have not made on site visits yet, but if you live in an area where waiting is longer than pregnancy, then I would definitely start making visits. I would expect the centers are receptive to you if their waiting list is that long. Good luck!
agree with @kentuckygirl: If the wait list is that long in your area, its normal to go check it out. Its like that here in NYC. You pay for a spot on the waiing list, and if they call you before your baby is born or before you are pregnant they can keep your spot for you. We went the nanny route, but I have friends who went daycare

I know in a lot of bigger cities, and maybe in small towns too, it can be really difficult to get in to the best daycare centers. Many of them have waiting lists that are longer than pregnancy + maternity leave time. A friend of mine who I work with is currently pregnant just had to hire a nanny for her first few months back to work because there won't be space available at the daycare they want to use. Has anyone gone through the process of checking out daycare centers before you were pregnant? Was a weird? Were they receptive to you? Just wondering if any one else is thinking about this...
